Manual Test Engineer (OTT/Media Focus)

Job Summary :

Responsible for rigorous manual quality assurance and end-to-end functional testing of Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming applications and platforms.

Focus on deep validation of video streaming quality, reliability, and functionality across various platforms and content types (Live, VOD, DVR), leveraging specialized networking and debugging tools.

Contribute to a high-quality user experience by writing elaborate test cases, performing root cause analysis, and ensuring adherence to complex media delivery protocols.

Core Responsibilities :

Manual Test Execution and Design :

- Execute comprehensive and structured manual functional and non-functional test cases for OTT/Media applications across web, mobile, and connected TV devices.

- Write detailed, articulate, and elaborate test cases and test plans covering user workflows, business logic, and complex media scenarios.

- Perform extensive testing on different content types, including Video on Demand (VOD), Live Streaming, and Digital Video Recording (DVR) functionalities.

Streaming Protocol and Debugging :

- Apply good technical knowledge of key streaming protocols such as DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) and HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) for validating media delivery.

- Demonstrate strong debugging skills and the ability to perform accurate root cause analysis for complex issues, including video playback failures, buffering, and quality degradation.

- Maintain hands-on proficiency in using network proxy and debugging tools such as Charles, Fiddler, and integrated Web Developer tools (e.g., Chrome DevTools).

- Expertise in inspecting, analyzing, and potentially reading/modifying network requests and responses to diagnose client-server communication issues.

Domain and Quality Assurance :

- Focus on the OTT/Media domain, applying experience gained over 4-7 years in testing consumer-facing media services.

- Collaborate closely with development and product teams to clarify requirements and provide timely, high-quality feedback on defects and features.

- Document defects clearly in a tracking system, ensuring all necessary steps and environmental details are captured for reproduction.

Required Technical Skills and Experience :

- 4-7 years of professional experience in manual software testing, preferably within the OTT/Media domain.

- Good working knowledge of DASH and HLS streaming protocols and adaptive bitrate concepts.

- Proven experience testing high-volume Live, VOD, and DVR streaming features.

- Mandatory hands-on experience using network proxy tools (Charles, Fiddler) and browser developer tools for network traffic interception and analysis.

- Strong analytical and debugging abilities, including proficiency in analyzing logs and network packets to identify the source of playback or functional failures.

- Excellent written communication skills for creating detailed test cases and bug reports.

Preferred Skills and Experience (Good to have) :

- Basic understanding of key OTT ecosystem components, specifically the Content Management System (CMS) for content ingestion and metadata.

- Basic understanding of the User Management System (UMS) for authentication, entitlements, and user profiles.

- Familiarity with different video encoding standards and DRM technologies.

- Exposure to testing across various operating systems (iOS, Android, Smart TVs, web browsers).
