L3 Linux Lead - Enterprise Server

Description :

The Linux L3 Engineer acts as the highest level of operational support within the organizations Linux infrastructure team. The role involves handling complex incidents escalated from L2 ensuring environment stability performing deepdive analysis and driving automation and optimization initiatives.

The engineer will also be responsible for mentoring L2 engineers maintaining documentation and ensuring adherence to best practices across RHEL SUSE and Ubuntu environments.

Key Responsibilities :

- Manage and resolve high-priority incidents and complex escalations received from L2 support

- Administer and maintain enterprise-grade Linux systems across RHEL SUSE and Ubuntu platforms

- Perform root cause analysis for recurring or critical issues and implement long-term corrective actions

- Handle OS-level patching security updates kernel upgrades and configuration tuning

- Design plan and implement performance optimization and capacity management strategies

- Automate repetitive system tasks and configuration using shell scripting or configuration management tools

- Collaborate with network storage and cloud teams to support integrated technical environments

- Create and maintain technical documentation process manuals and troubleshooting guides

- Provide technical guidance mentoring and training support to L2 engineers

- Ensure adherence to ITIL processes and participate in change problem and incident management

- Participate in shift rotations ensuring coverage for 24x7 operations across environments

Required Skills Experience :

- Advanced hands-on experience with Linux operating systems especially RHEL SUSE Linux Enterprise Server SLES and Ubuntu

- Expertise in system performance tuning process management and troubleshooting of critical production issues

- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash Python or Perl for automation

- Strong knowledge of system services boot processes and kernel parameters

- Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible Puppet or Chef

- Familiarity with virtualization and cloud technologies VMware AWS Azure or OpenStack

- Proficient in managing file systems EXT4 XFS NFS LVMs and backup environments

- Experience with enterprise monitoring tools such as Nagios Zabbix or Prometheus

- Understanding of security policies hardening standards and system compliance

- Proven track record in managing large-scale Linux deployments in production environments

Key Competencies :

- Excellent documentation skills to maintain technical reports root cause analyses and knowledge articles

- Strong communication and client-facing skills for handling technical discussions and status reporting

- Ability to lead and drive P1/P2 incident calls under pressure while coordinating between multiple teams

- Leadership capabilities for mentoring guiding and supporting L2 engineers

- Analytical thinking problem-solving aptitude and proactive approach toward system improvements

Certifications Qualifications :

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related discipline

- Certifications such as RHCE SLES Certified Engineer or LFCE preferred

- ITIL Foundation certification is an added advantage
