Role Overview :

We are looking for an experienced L2 VMware VDI Administrator to manage, support, monitor, and troubleshoot the organization's VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in VMware Horizon, VMware vSphere/vCenter, Windows administration, Active Directory, Group Policy, and VDI troubleshooting. The role will primarily focus on L2 operational support, incident resolution, VDI administration, performance monitoring, patching, and ensuring high availability of the virtual desktop environment.

Key Responsibilities :

- Administer and provide L2 support for VMware Horizon VDI environments.

- Manage and troubleshoot VMware Horizon Connection Servers, desktop pools, virtual machines, and user sessions.

- Perform administration and troubleshooting of VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter environments supporting VDI.

- Create, maintain, patch, and update master/golden images used for virtual desktops.

- Manage VDI desktop pools, provisioning, cloning, recomposing, and image deployment.

- Troubleshoot VDI-related issues including:

1. User login and authentication issues

2. VDI connectivity problems

3. Slow desktop/performance issues

4. User profile-related issues

5. Application availability issues

6. VM resource and capacity issues

- Perform Windows desktop and Windows Server administration related to the VDI environment.

- Work with Active Directory, Group Policy (GPO), DNS, DHCP, and related Windows infrastructure services.

- Monitor VDI infrastructure health, capacity, availability, and performance.

- Handle incident, service request, problem, and change management activities within defined SLAs.

- Perform regular patching, upgrades, maintenance, and health checks of the VDI environment.

- Coordinate with L1 support teams and provide technical guidance for VDI-related incidents.

- Escalate complex infrastructure issues to L3, OEM, or other infrastructure teams when required.

- Perform root cause analysis for recurring VDI incidents and implement corrective actions.

- Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, configuration details, and troubleshooting guides.

- Participate in planned maintenance and infrastructure change activities.

- Ensure compliance with organizational security, access-control, and IT infrastructure standards.

Mandatory Skills :

- VMware Horizon / Horizon View

- VMware VDI Administration

- VMware vSphere / ESXi / vCenter

- Windows 10/11 Administration

- Windows Server Administration

- Active Directory (AD)

- Group Policy (GPO)

- DNS & DHCP

- VDI Desktop Pool Management

- Golden/Master Image Management

- Strong VDI troubleshooting and performance analysis skills

- Incident, Change, and Problem Management experience

Good to Have :

- Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.

- Exposure to FSLogix or other user profile management solutions.

- Knowledge of application packaging/deployment technologies.

- Exposure to monitoring tools used for VMware/VDI environments.

- Understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, VLAN, routing, firewall, and load balancing.

- Experience working in an ITIL-based support environment.

- Prior experience supporting VDI environments in Banking/BFSI or other highly regulated organizations would be an advantage.

Candidate Profile :

- 5 to 8 years of overall IT infrastructure experience.

- Strong hands-on experience in VMware VDI/Horizon administration and support.

- Should have independently handled L2-level VDI incidents and troubleshooting.

- Good understanding of VMware virtualization and Windows infrastructure.

- Ability to troubleshoot issues across VDI, VMware, Windows, AD/GPO, network, and user-profile layers.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Good communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple infrastructure/support teams.

- Willingness to support business-critical infrastructure and participate in scheduled maintenance activities when required.

Preferred Certifications :

Any of the following certifications would be an advantage :

1. VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

2. VMware Horizon / End-User Computing certifications

3. Microsoft Windows Server / Azure certifications

4. ITIL Foundation
