Role Overview :
We are looking for an experienced IMS Database Administrator (IMS DBA) to manage, support, and optimize IMS databases in enterprise production environments. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in IMS database administration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and mainframe support. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring database availability, integrity, performance, and operational excellence in mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities :
- Administer and support IMS databases in production, test, and development environments.
- Manage IMS Full-Function and Fast Path (DEDB) databases effectively.
- Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Monitor database performance and optimize for availability, reliability, and efficiency.
- Handle backup, recovery, restore, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Perform database reorganization and space management activities.
- Maintain and manage DBDs (Database Descriptions) and PSBs (Program Specification Blocks).
- Support and troubleshoot DL/I call-related issues in production.
- Monitor daily batch processing and resolve job failures or performance issues.
- Analyze and troubleshoot database-related incidents and provide root cause analysis.
- Ensure database security, compliance, and access management.
- Collaborate with application teams, developers, and infrastructure teams for issue resolution.
- Perform capacity planning and ensure database scalability for future business needs.
- Automate routine administrative tasks for operational efficiency.
- Maintain documentation for database configurations, processes, and recovery procedures.
- Provide on-call support for critical production incidents.
Required Skillsets :
- Strong experience as an IMS Database Administrator in enterprise environments.
- Hands-on expertise in IMS database administration and production support.
- Strong knowledge of IMS Full-Function databases.
- Strong knowledge of IMS Fast Path (DEDB) databases.
- Expertise in database backup and recovery processes.
- Experience in database reorganization and performance tuning.
- Strong understanding of DL/I calls.
- Hands-on experience in PSB maintenance.
- Hands-on experience in DBD maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of IMS utilities and IBM database tools.
- Good understanding of database monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in JCL.
- Hands-on experience with TSO/ISPF.
- Strong knowledge of SDSF.
- Experience in mainframe batch job troubleshooting.
- Experience with scheduling tools such as Control-M and CA-7.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Relevant certifications in Mainframe or Database Administration are preferred.
