About the Role :
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically specialized IBM DB2 (UDB) Database Administrator to manage the operational stability, performance, and security of our mission-critical DB2/LUW environments. This role requires deep expertise in traditional DB2 administration combined with mandatory skills in modern DevOps, infrastructure automation, and CI/CD pipeline development, treating the database infrastructure as code.
Key Responsibilities :
- Database Architecture & Management : Design, implement, and manage complex DB2/LUW (Linux, Unix, Windows) database environments, ensuring optimal performance, robust replication, stringent security, and continuous availability.
- Core Operations : Expertly perform all critical administrative operations, including advanced backup/recovery strategies, platform patching, version upgrades, and proactive performance tuning using native DB2 tools and utilities.
- Automation and IaC : Drive infrastructure automation initiatives by automating DB2 infrastructure provisioning and configuration using modern tools such as Ansible, Elastic, and Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
- CI/CD Integration : Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines specifically tailored for database schema changes, configuration updates, and deployment using tools like Azure DevOps.
- Replication and HA/DR : Manage and support high-availability and disaster recovery setups, including advanced configuration and troubleshooting of DB2 replication technologies (SQL Replication and Q Replication).
- Migration & Upgrade : Lead complex database migrations and cross-platform upgrades, planning and executing strategies with minimal downtime.
- Scripting and Tooling : Write robust automation scripts (Python, Shell) and develop custom tooling to enhance monitoring, administrative efficiency, and perform capacity planning.
- Security and Compliance : Implement and manage strict database security controls, audit trails, and granular access control mechanisms, ensuring full enterprise compliance.
- Collaboration & ITSM : Collaborate directly with IBM support (PMR) for complex technical escalations and adhere strictly to formal ITSM processes and change management procedures using ticketing systems like ServiceNow.
Required Skill Set (Mandatory Skills) :
- DB2 Expertise : Deep, hands-on experience as a DB2 (UDB/LUW) Database Administrator in large-scale production environments.
- High Availability : Expert proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting DB2 HADR and managing underlying cluster solutions.
- Replication : Mandatory experience supporting and administering DB2 SQL Replication and/or Q Replication.
- Automation (IaC) : Practical experience automating database infrastructure and configuration using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Elastic.
- DevOps : Proven experience developing and integrating database changes into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps.
- Performance Tuning : Expert-level skills in DB2 query and instance performance tuning, including execution plan analysis and optimizer control.
- Scripting : Strong proficiency in automation scripting (Python or Shell).
Preferred Skills :
- Certification as an IBM Certified Database Administrator (DB2).
- Experience with cloud database platforms (Azure or AWS) and hybrid cloud DB2 deployments.
- Experience with other DB2 technologies, such as DB2 pureScale.
