Engineering Manager - Java Development

Job Title : Engineering Manager Backend (Java)

Experience Required : 8+ years (including 2+ years in engineering leadership)

What Youll Do :

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a high-performance backend engineering team building scalable, distributed systems powering Omazas gaming and OTT platforms. You will drive both technical and people leadership, balancing hands-on architecture with team development and delivery execution.

Key Responsibilities :

- Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers across multiple feature squads

- Drive system design, architecture reviews, and long-term technical roadmap for backend services

- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to deliver scalable product capabilities

- Ensure engineering best practices in code quality, reliability, observability, and performance

- Facilitate sprint planning, technical scoping, and execution tracking for timely delivery

- Guide adoption of modern backend technologies including event-driven systems and microservices

- Optimize systems for high throughput and low latency using Java (8+), Spring Boot, Kafka, Redis, and MySQL/PostgreSQL

- Grow the engineering team by hiring top talent and cultivating a culture of ownership and innovation

What Were Looking For :

Leadership & Technical Skills :

- 8+ years of backend development experience, including 2+ years leading high-performing engineering teams

- Proven track record of building and scaling distributed backend systems in Java and Spring Boot

- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, event-driven systems (Kafka), and API design

- Strong database fundamentals with hands-on experience in MySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis

- Experience with containerized deployments (Docker), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling

- Ability to mentor and grow engineers while maintaining a high technical bar

- Clear communication and stakeholder management skills across engineering and product
