About the Role :

Were looking for an experienced Backend Engineering Manager with deep expertise in Node.js and modern backend architecture to lead a high-performing team building scalable, resilient APIs and services that power DAZNs next-gen sports streaming experience.

You will drive technical excellence, coach engineers, collaborate cross-functionally with product, data, and platform teams, and ensure our systems deliver seamless fan experiences worldwide.

Responsibilities :

- Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers working primarily with Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS.

- Design, develop, and optimize high-volume, low-latency APIs and microservices supporting millions of DAZN users.

- Partner with Product, Architecture, and DevOps teams to deliver high-impact, scalable backend solutions.

- Establish and drive best practices in code quality, CI/CD, testing, and observability.

- Manage sprint planning, technical design reviews, and delivery timelines.

- Recruit, retain, and grow world-class backend talent.

- Foster a collaborative engineering culture rooted in continuous learning and ownership.

- Work closely with stakeholders across global teams (UK, Poland, Japan, and Italy).

Requirements :

- 10+ years of total experience with at least 3+ years in people management.

- Proven expertise in Node.js (Express, NestJS, or similar frameworks) and Java.

- Solid knowledge of RESTful APIs, GraphQL, microservices, and event-driven architecture.

- Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, S3, etc.) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and logging tools.

- Hands on Code Reviews.

- Experience with TypeScript, SQL/NoSQL databases, and message brokers (Kafka, SNS/SQS).

- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

- Exposure to streaming, media tech, or OTT systems is a plus.

- Understanding of security, caching, and performance optimization at scale.
