Database Administrator - SQL Server/Oracle DB

Responsibilities :

The DBA will maintain and optimize SQL Server 2016/2019/2022, Oracle 12c/19c, PostgreSQL 14/15/16, and MySQL databases hosted on AWS, including Amazon RDS, Amazon EC2, and Amazon Aurora. The role requires expertise in database performance tuning, security, cloud-based best practices, and ensuring continuous availability. The DBA will collaborate closely with developers, system administrators, and DevOps teams to ensure efficient database integration with business applications.

Production Stability and Reliability :

- Own the stability, performance, and availability of all production database environments.

- Work on incident resolution, root cause analysis, and prevention strategies.

- Define and enforce database operational standards, guardrails, and best practices.

Database Management & Maintenance :

- Administer and maintain SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases hosted on Amazon RDS and Amazon EC2.

- Perform database installations, patching, and upgrades on AWS infrastructure.

- Configure and manage multi-AZ deployments, Read Replicas, AOAG, and Data Guard to ensure high availability.

- Manage SQL Server Always On configurations for improved failover and availability.

- Implement database partitioning, compression, and indexing to optimize performance.

Performance Engineering :

- Conduct deep performance analysis at the system, query, and indexing levels.

- Recommend and implement architectural improvements for scalability.

- Guide application teams in schema and query optimization.

Backup & Recovery :

- Design and implement automated backup strategies using AWS Backup and RDS Automated Snapshots for SQL Server.

- Use Oracle RMAN for Oracle database backups and recovery.

- Develop and test disaster recovery plans using AWS DMS and Cloud Endure.

Monitoring & Alerting :

- Configure proactive alerts for performance issues, storage limits, and availability risks using CloudWatch and AWS SNS.

Collaboration & Documentation :

- Collaborate with developers, cloud architects, and DevOps teams to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines.

- Document database architectures, configurations, backup strategies, and recovery plans.

Automation & Innovation :

- Drive automation of operational DBA tasks using PowerShell, Python, AWS CLI or similar tools.

- Evaluate and implement new database technologies, monitoring solutions, and optimization tools.

Tools & Technologies :

- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), SQL Developer, TOAD

- Shell scripting, PowerShell, PL/SQL, PG/SQL

- Git, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation

- Goldengate, AOAG, DMS, Data Guard

What Were Looking For :

- 8+ years of experience as a DBA, with a strong emphasis on MSSQL and performance tuning.

- Exposure to multiple databases is preferred.

- Primary expertise in MSSQL, secondary in PostgreSQL, familiarity with Oracle, MySQL, and MariaDB is a plus.

- Willingness to work any shift and to perform additional hours as needed.
