We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and secure our diverse data infrastructure. In this role, you will be the custodian of our data layer, overseeing a modern polyglot database environment that includes relational, analytical, document, and caching technologies.
You will ensure high availability, peak performance, and robust security across our development, UAT, and production environments. This is a critical role requiring a deep understanding of both traditional relational database management systems (RDBMS) and modern NoSQL/analytics data stores.
Key Responsibilities :
Role : Database Administration & Maintenance
Multi-Engine Management : Administer, configure, and maintain our core database technologies across dev, UAT, and production environments :
- Relational : PostgreSQL (AWS RDS) and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Analytical/Columnar : ClickHouse.
- NoSQL / Document : MongoDB.
- Caching / In-Memory : Redis.
- Search / Analytics : Elasticsearch.
- Environment Consistency : Ensure configuration parity, data masking compliance, and smooth deployment pipelines between lower environments and production.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization :
- Health Monitoring : Continuously monitor database health, performance metrics, and system resource utilization (CPU, memory, I/O, storage).
- Query Performance : Analyze complex query execution plans, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate with engineering teams to refactor inefficient workloads.
- Proactive Tuning : Implement and maintain index strategies, partition large datasets, and tune database parameters to optimize throughput and minimize latency.
Data Protection & Disaster Recovery :
- Backup Management : Design, implement, and test automated backup strategies tailored to the unique recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) of each database engine.
- Disaster Recovery (DR) : Lead restoration drills, maintain failover replication schemas, and continuously refine disaster recovery documentation.
Security, Compliance & Governance :
- Access Control : Enforce least-privilege access controls, manage user roles, and audit database access privileges.
- Data Security : Ensure data encryption standards are strictly applied both at rest and in transit across all data platforms.
- Compliance : Align database configurations with industry security benchmarks and compliance frameworks.
Collaboration & Schema Review :
- Design Partnership : Partner with software engineers during the design phase to perform schema reviews and ensure scalable data models.
- DDL Management : Oversee database migrations, schema evolution, and index deployments with zero or minimal downtime.
Required Skills & Qualifications :
- Experience : 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator managing production-grade, high-traffic databases.
- Database Deep-Dive : Proven hands-on experience managing at least three of our primary engines (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, ClickHouse, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch) with a strong willingness to master the others.
- Cloud Infrastructure : Strong familiarity with cloud-managed database services, specifically AWS RDS.
- Tooling : Proficient with database monitoring and APM tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana, Percona Monitoring and Management).
- Scripting : Solid scripting skills (Bash, Python, or PowerShell) to automate routine maintenance and monitoring tasks.
- Soft Skills : Exceptional troubleshooting skills, a calm demeanor under pressure during production incidents, and excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional dev teams.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Certifications in AWS (SysOps/Database Specialty), Microsoft SQL Server, or MongoDB Administration.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform for provisioning database resources.
- Understanding of containerized database deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
