About the Role :
We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to manage, optimize, and modernize our multi-database infrastructure supporting insurance and wealth management analytics platforms.
The role involves working across OLTP, OLAP, and caching layers in a cloud-hosted, high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Database Administration :
- Administer and maintain PostgreSQL (RDS), SQL Server, ClickHouse, MongoDB, REDIS, and Elasticsearch instances across dev, UAT, and production environments
- Monitor database health, performance metrics, query plans, and resource utilization
- Manage database backups, restoration procedures, and disaster recovery plans
- Enforce security best practices : access controls, role management, encryption at rest and in transit
- Perform schema reviews, index optimization, and query tuning
Version Upgrades & Migrations :
- Plan and execute PostgreSQL 14.22 ? 18 upgrade on AWS RDS (EOL : Nov 2026 priority task)
- Upgrade PostgreSQL 9.5.23 instances (well past EOL)
- Upgrade MongoDB 3.6.3 ? 8.x (EOL since Oct 2021)
- Upgrade Elasticsearch 8.12.2 ? 9.4.x
- Coordinate with application teams to ensure zero-downtime migration strategies
- Validate application compatibility (ORM, drivers, stored procedures) before and after upgrades
ClickHouse (OLAP) :
- Manage ClickHouse cluster for analytics workloads
- Optimize analytical queries, partitioning strategies, and materialized views
- Evaluate LTS vs rolling release versions and maintain upgrade roadmap
- Monitor query performance for high-volume analytics reads
Redis & Caching Layer :
- Administer Redis for session management and distributed caching
- Configure eviction policies, persistence settings, and cluster replication
- Monitor memory usage and cache hit rates
Cloud & Infrastructure :
- Manage AWS RDS instances (PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
- Work with Amazon EKS for containerized database workloads
- Support infrastructure-as-code (IaC) for database provisioning
- Collaborate with DevOps on Docker and container-based DB deployments
Monitoring & Compliance :
- Set up alerting for slow queries, replication lag, disk thresholds, and failover events
- Maintain database documentation and runbooks
- Ensure compliance with data retention, audit logging, and security policies
- Participate in on-call rotation for production database incidents
Required Skills :
- Core Databases : PostgreSQL (including RDS), SQL Server, ClickHouse
- NoSQL : MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis
- Cloud : AWS RDS, AWS EKS, S3
- Performance : Query tuning, indexing, execution plans, vacuum/analyze
- HA/DR : Replication, failover, backup/restore, point-in-time recovery
- Scripting : SQL, Bash/Shell, Python (basic)
- Version Control : Git
- OS : Linux (Ubuntu/RHEL), Windows
Good to Have :
- Experience with ClickHouse at scale (sharding, distributed tables, mergetrees)
- Knowledge of EF Core / ORM impact on database design
- Familiarity with Serilog or centralized log management (ELK/Grafana)
- Exposure to Kafka or RabbitMQ message broker data flows
- Experience with Talend or ETL pipelines touching databases
- Apache Airflow pipeline-to-database integration knowledge
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent
- 5 to 8 years of hands-on DBA experience in production environments
- Strong understanding of ACID properties, CAP theorem, and database internals
- Proven experience executing major version upgrades with minimal downtime
- Excellent communication skills for cross-team coordination (Dev, DevOps, Compliance)
Immediate Priorities (First 90 Days) :
1. Audit all database versions against EOL dates
2. Initiate PostgreSQL RDS 14.22 ? 18 upgrade plan (EOL : Nov 2026)
3. Plan MongoDB 3.6.3 ? 8.x migration (EOL since 2021)
4. Document current ClickHouse schema, partitioning, and query patterns
5. Establish monitoring dashboards for all database instances
