Senior Systems Engineer - ITOps
Crum & Forster is seeking a highly skilled HyperV & Windows Administrator to join our team. This role will primarily focus on managing and supporting our HyperV infrastructure. Additionally, experience with VMware, Nutanix and UCS will be valuable as secondary skills to assist with virtualization and compute management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Windows administration, architecting Hyper-V and troubleshooting related systems.
Job Responsibilities :
- Architect, deploy, and manage Microsoft Hyper-V Failover Clusters , including Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV).
- Administer System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) fabric: host groups, logical networks, vSwitch templates, IP pools, storage classifications, placement rules, and automated VM lifecycle management.
- Design and troubleshoot Hyper-V networking, including Extensible vSwitch, VLANs, NIC Teaming / Switch Embedded Teaming (SET), Live Migration networks, and QoS/bandwidth policies.
- Manage and optimize Hyper-V storage integration, including CSV performance, MPIO, SAN/NAS connectivity, storage migration, capacity planning, and IOPS/latency troubleshooting.
- Lead Hyper-V platform compliance, monitoring, and security hardening, including logging/agent validation, backup and VSS coordination, CIS baseline remediation, and collaboration with Cyber and Compliance teams.
- Performance & Capacity Management: Monitor and optimize storage and virtualization performance, plan for future capacity needs.
- Security & Compliance: Implement security controls and ensure compliance with data protection regulations across platforms.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Provide technical support and resolve issues related to storage, backup, and virtualization environments.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain up-to-date documentation and prepare regular system performance and backup status reports.
Required Skills :
- Strong working knowledge of NetApp storage solutions, including provisioning, snapshots, replication, and performance optimization.
- Strong proficiency in Cohesity for backup, disaster recovery, and data protection.
- Well-rounded knowledge of VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, VM provisioning, and resource management.
- Well-rounded knowledge of Hyper-V environments, including virtual machine management, monitoring, and backup strategies.
- Proficiency in Cisco UCS infrastructure, including fabric interconnects, chassis, blades, and UCS Manager configuration.
- Solid understanding of storage area networks (SAN) and network-attached storage (NAS) systems.
- Experience with data protection policies across NetApp and Cohesity, ensuring compliance and performance.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for documentation, reporting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Proven team player with a strong ability to resolve problems systematically, focusing on mission-critical issues.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, ensuring effective collaboration across technical teams and meeting deadlines in high-pressure situations.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation, including PowerShell and Python for automating storage, backup, and virtual machine management tasks.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple resources across different disciplines, ensuring optimal solutions for storage, backup, and virtualization needs.
Required Experience :
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in system administration, including HyperV, VMware and UCS support.
- Expertise in Cisco UCS hardware and UCS Manager for system configuration, management, and troubleshooting.
- In-depth knowledge of VMware vSphere (7.x/8.x), including vMotion, HA, and backend SAN (NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel, vSAN).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) environments and VMware-related issues.
- Strong understanding of VLANs, networking, and physical-to-virtual migrations.
- SAN Switch management experience : Configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of SAN switches for seamless communication between storage devices and servers.
- Expertise in zoning, trunking, and fabric management.
- Experience with Brocade and or Cisco MDS SAN switches.
