Role: Azure BI reporting
Type: Full-time employee (FTE)
Location: Remote
Start: Immediate/15 days
Exp: 8 - 10 years
Working Hours: 5.30pm to 2.30am
About the role:
We're hiring a hands-on Business Intelligence professional to take operational ownership of an established BI reporting environment. This is a continuity role, not a rebuild: you'll learn the current reporting operation in depth, document it, transition legacy Azure data sources over to a validated Microsoft Fabric/Azure environment, and become the day-to-day owner and primary support contact for the platform.
You'll start by working alongside the current BI owner, absorbing the environment through structured knowledge transfer, and ramp to full independent ownership. The platform remains in production until it is eventually replaced by a future-state BI environment - your job is to keep it running accurately, reliably, and without disruption to the business.
This suits someone who is comfortable owning production reporting, ramps fast on an unfamiliar environment, and takes pride in reliability and clean documentation over greenfield design.
What you'll do:
- Absorb the environment. Work directly with the outgoing BI owner to learn every report, dataset, automation, pipeline, and supporting process. Document it thoroughly enough to support it independently.
- Secure access and readiness. Obtain and validate access to all systems, service accounts, workspaces, and data sources needed to operate the platform without dependency on the prior owner.
- Execute the source transition. Replace legacy Azure source dependencies with validated Fabric/Azure-backed sources, preserving existing reporting outputs, business logic, distributions, and user experience exactly as they are today.
- Validate and stabilize. Confirm that reports, scheduled extracts, distributions, and downstream dependencies continue to produce correct results after cutover, and resolve issues quickly.
- Own operations. Serve as primary operational owner and support contact - monitoring, troubleshooting, and responding to report requests and issues.
- Maintain continuity. Keep the platform stable and reliable until it is ultimately replaced by the future-state BI environment.
Technical skillset:
Core data platform:
- Azure SQL Database / Azure SQL - writing and tuning T-SQL, stored procedures, views, and functions; understanding execution plans, indexing, and query performance
- Azure Data Factory (ADF) - building, operating, and troubleshooting pipelines; linked services, datasets, integration runtimes, triggers/schedules, and monitoring pipeline runs and failures
- Microsoft Fabric - working knowledge of Fabric workspaces, Lakehouse/Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, and Fabric pipelines; ability to validate and repoint data sources into a Fabric/Azure environment
- Data modeling & SQL - strong relational data modeling and advanced SQL for joins, aggregations, and data validation across sources
Reporting & distribution:
- Power BI - datasets/semantic models, reports, dashboards, workspaces, refresh scheduling, gateways, and row-level security
- Paginated reports - Power BI Paginated / SSRS-style reports (RDL), parameters, and formatted/pixel-perfect output
- DAX and Power Query (M) - writing and debugging measures, calculated columns, and transformations
- Report distribution - subscriptions, scheduled delivery, and distribution management
Automation & integration:
- Power Automate - building and supporting automated flows for report and data distribution
- Data integrations - scheduled extracts, flat-file integrations (CSV/TXT), and API/system feeds
- Excel - advanced Excel including downstream workbook dependencies, Power Query in Excel, and complex formulas
Security, operations & governance:
- Security configuration - dataset/report-level security, row-level security, and workspace/access permissions
- Service accounts & credentials - managing service accounts, secrets, and connection credentials used by pipelines and refreshes
- Monitoring & support - proactive monitoring of pipelines, refreshes, and distributions; incident triage, root-cause analysis, and resolution
- Documentation - producing clear runbooks and operational documentation for a production environment
What we're looking for beyond the tech:
- Proven experience operating and supporting a production BI/reporting environment end-to-end
- Ability to rapidly learn an unfamiliar environment, document it, and assume ownership with minimal handholding
- A continuity-first mindset - preserving existing behavior rather than redesigning it
- Strong attention to detail and dependable, stakeholder-facing communication as the primary support contact
