Job Description :
We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud DevOps Engineer to support the engineering, deployment, and ongoing operations of our cloud infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in advancing cloud recovery strategies, enterprise platform deployments, and security posture across Tier 0 and Tier 1 clinical and research systems.
The primary responsibility of this role is to monitor our ticket queue and use Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Ansible) to identify and resolve issues within our infrastructure essentially functioning as an SRE for Cloud Platform Engineering.
The ideal candidate thrives in a regulated healthcare environment, brings hands-on AWS expertise, and is comfortable operating across infrastructure automation, security tooling, and enterprise application delivery. Since we are now operating in a multi-cloud environment, familiarity with Azure is a plus.
Cloud Recovery & Business Continuity :
- Design, implement, and validate Cloud Recovery Strategies for Tier 0 and Tier 1 mission-critical applications on AWS
- Implement Phase 1B Research DR (Disaster Recovery) in cloud as part of the Next Generation Storage Technologies initiative
Cover Enterprise Applications :
- Deploy and operationalize the Enterprise Digital Pathology Platform on AWS
- Provision new infrastructure components and create cloud-based infrastructure using AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or equivalent IaC templates
- Create and manage new cloud services and on-premise infrastructure integrations as directed by the team
Security & Compliance :
- Implement security tools and enforce standards across Managed Cloud Platforms
- Author and apply security policies in coordination with the IT Security team
- Maintain continuous compliance with organizational coding, testing, and security standards
- Ensure all cloud configurations adhere to HIPAA/HITECH requirements and relevant healthcare industry standards
Automation & Infrastructure-as-Code :
- Develop, maintain, and enhance automation scripts to reduce manual operations and improve deployment repeatability
- Leverage AWS-native services (Lambda, Systems Manager, EventBridge, Step Functions) and CI/CD tooling to automate infrastructure lifecycle tasks
- Build and manage cloud templates for repeatable, compliant infrastructure provisioning
Documentation & Governance :
- Store all source code and artifacts in designated systems, including documentation wikis and source code versioning platforms (e.g., Git/Bitbucket)
- Save all documentation and deliverables to designated systems on a daily basis
- Log all time accurately into the time tracking system on a weekly basis
- Attend and contribute to AWS Cloud project meetings, security reviews, and stakeholder sessions
Education :
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
Experience :
- 5+ years of hands-on cloud engineering or DevOps experience
- 3+ years working directly with Amazon Web Services in a production environment
- Demonstrated experience with DR/BCP implementations on cloud platforms
- Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, finance, or government) strongly preferred
Technical Skills :
The primary responsibility of this role will be to watch our Ticket queue and use IaC (Terraform or Ansible) to correct issues within our Infrastructure. Think of it as an SRE role for Cloud Platform Engineering.

- Security Tooling: AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, Config, Inspector, IAM Policy Management
- Storage Technologies: EBS, EFS, S3 Glacier, FSx, and emerging cloud storage solutions
- Networking: VPN, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, Security Groups, NACLs
- Monitoring & Observability: CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, or equivalent
Good To Have :

Certifications (Preferred) :
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or Professional
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional
- AWS Certified Security Specialty
- HashiCorp Terraform Associate
- Strong written and verbal communication able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, cross-functional healthcare IT environment
- Meticulous documentation habits and discipline in adhering to governance and compliance processes
- Self-directed and organized, capable of managing multiple concurrent workstreams
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to partner with security, infrastructure, and clinical teams
