About the Role :

We are seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer to join our eCRM Platform team at THG Ingenuity. You will be responsible for building and maintaining the backend services of our proprietary eCRM platform that powers customer relationship management capabilities across our e-commerce ecosystem. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern Java technologies on a platform that processes millions of customer interactions and drives critical business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services using Java 17/21 and Spring Boot 3.

- Build and maintain RESTful APIs that power our eCRM platform's frontend and third-party integrations.

- Implement event-driven architectures using ActiveMQ for asynchronous message processing.

- Design and optimise BigQuery data pipelines for customer analytics and reporting.

- Write efficient SQL queries and optimise database performance for large-scale data operations.

- Deploy and manage containerised applications on Kubernetes infrastructure.

- Implement comprehensive unit and integration testing to ensure code quality and reliability.

- Participate in the migration and adoption of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.

- Build robust CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins for automated deployments.

- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for production services.

- Collaborate with frontend engineers to design optimal API contracts.

- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.

- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring high availability and performance.

- Contribute to technical documentation and API specifications.

- Oversee the operation of eCRM platform during out-of-office hours by responding to platform operational and functional production incidents.

Required Skills and Experience :

- 3+ years of commercial experience in backend development.

- Strong proficiency in Java 17/21 with experience in :

1. Modern Java features (Records, Pattern Matching, Virtual Threads)

2. Functional programming concepts

3. Concurrent programming and thread management

- Production experience with Spring Boot 3 including :

1. Spring Web for RESTful API development

2. Spring Data JPA/JDBC

3. Spring Security for authentication and authorisation

4. Spring Cloud components

- Solid experience with SQL and database design :

1. Complex query optimisation

2. Database performance tuning

3. Understanding of indexing strategies

- Experience with BigQuery or similar data warehouse solutions :

1. Writing and optimising analytical queries

2. Designing efficient data models

3. Batch and streaming data processing

- Hands-on experience with message queuing systems, preferably ActiveMQ :

1. Topic and queue management

2. Message routing and filtering

3. Error handling and dead letter queues

- Experience with containerisation and Kubernetes :

1. Docker container creation and optimisation

2. Kubernetes deployments, services, and config maps

3. Understanding of pod lifecycle and scaling strategies

- Proficiency with CI/CD practices :

1. GitHub for version control and collaboration

2. Jenkins or GitHub Actions for pipeline automation

3. Automated testing and deployment strategies

- Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services :

1. Cloud Run, Cloud Functions

2. Pub/Sub for messaging

3. Cloud Storage and Firestore

- Knowledge of event streaming platforms (Kafka, Google Pub/Sub).

- Experience with API gateway patterns and service mesh architectures.

- Understanding of microservices design patterns and distributed systems.

- Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).

- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Helm).

- Knowledge of CRM systems or marketing technology platforms.

- Understanding of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA).

- Performance profiling and JVM tuning experience.
