Cloud / Backend Engineers build the backbone of Walt.

Walt is an agentic data platform that runs in real enterprise environments. That means high-throughput APIs, long-running agent workflows, secure data access, reliable orchestration, and cloud infrastructure that doesnt fall apart under load.

This role is about building durable systems : the services, workflows, and infrastructure that allow AI and data agents to operate safely, reliably, and at scale. Youll design core backend services, cloud deployments, and execution frameworks that everything else depends on.

What youll do :

Build core backend services :

- Design and implement APIs that power Walts agent execution and data access

- Build services for job orchestration, task execution, and state management

- Handle long-running workflows, retries, and failure recovery

Design scalable system architecture :

- Design service boundaries, data flows, and contracts

- Make thoughtful tradeoffs between simplicity, performance, and extensibility

- Ensure systems scale with customer usage and data volume

Own cloud infrastructure :

- Design and operate cloud deployments (AWS / GCP / Azure)

- Build secure, production-grade environments for enterprise customers

- Manage networking, IAM, secrets, and environment isolation

Enable reliability and observability :

- Implement logging, metrics, and tracing across services

- Design health checks, alerts, and monitoring

- Make failures debuggable, not mysterious

What were looking for

Strong software engineering fundamentals :

- 4+ years building production backend systems

- Strong Python (or similar backend language)

- Deep understanding of APIs, services, and distributed systems

System design experience :

- Comfortable designing systems from first principles

- Experience with queues, workers, schedulers, and async processing

- Understands tradeoffs around consistency, latency, and reliability

Cloud and infrastructure knowledge :

- Hands-on with AWS, GCP, or Azure

- Experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes preferred)

- Familiar with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment pipelines

Operational mindset :

- You think about failure modes, not just happy paths

- You design systems that can be monitored, debugged, and evolved

- You care about performance, cost, and security

High ownership :

- Comfortable owning services end-to-end

- Will dive into unfamiliar parts of the system to fix real problems

- Bias toward action and clarity
