Role Overview :

We are seeking a Lead Backend Developer with deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and experience in building scalable systems specifically within the gaming domain. This role demands both strong technical acumen and leadership abilities, including mentoring engineers, driving architectural decisions, and ensuring performance and reliability in a real-time, high-load environment.

Note : Applicants must be from a Tier 1 Engineering Institution (IITs, BITS, NITs, IIITs, or equivalent) and have prior experience in the gaming domain.

Key Responsibilities :

System Design & Architecture :

- Architect, build, and maintain high-performance backend systems for real-time multiplayer gaming, matchmaking, and leaderboards.

- Design microservices that can handle millions of concurrent users with low latency and high availability.

- Drive architecture choices for scalability, fault tolerance, and system evolution.

Development & Delivery :

- Lead feature development end-to-end : from design and coding to deployment and monitoring.

- Implement RESTful APIs and WebSockets for real-time communication.

- Ensure adherence to clean code, unit testing, and automated deployment best practices.

Team Leadership :

- Guide and mentor a team of backend developers.

- Conduct code reviews and enforce best-in-class engineering standards.

- Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and front-end engineers to deliver world-class gaming experiences.

DevOps & Performance :

- Own and optimize the CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management processes.

- Deploy and manage services on cloud platforms like AWS / GCP with containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.

- Monitor production systems for performance and proactively address latency or scalability issues.

Requirements :

- 7-12 years of backend development experience in Java and Spring Boot.

- Tier 1 engineering background (IIT, BITS, NIT, IIIT, or similar).

- Mandatory experience in the Gaming industry (online multiplayer games, casual games, fantasy sports, real-money gaming, etc.).

- Expertise in microservices architecture, concurrent programming, and distributed systems.

- Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), Docker, and Kubernetes.

- Deep understanding of CI/CD tools, API security, data integrity, and server-side optimization.

- Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB).

- Experience handling real-time events, matchmaking algorithms, or leaderboard systems is highly preferred.

- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and performance-tuning skills.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience working with game engines, real-time state synchronization, or player analytics.

- Familiarity with messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).

- Exposure to observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK Stack.

- Knowledge of multithreading, caching, and latency optimization.

- Prior experience leading technical interviews or hiring for backend teams.
