Key Responsibilities :

- Architect and implement scalable, low-latency backend systems for realtime communication (e.g., chat, messaging, streaming).

- Design distributed systems with fault tolerance, consistency, and performance in mind.

- Own technical decision-making for the backend including database design, APIs, security, and deployment strategies.

- Lead and mentor backend developers (if any).

- As a contract engineer, youll engage with a high-ownership engineering team to deliver next-generation services in a microservices architecture.

- Youll take end-to-end technical ownership within the scope of your contractunderstanding business requirements, contributing to solutioning, and supporting production deployment and monitoring.

- Work closely with DevOps to ensure CI/CD pipelines, observability, and cloud infrastructure align with backend needs.

- Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code (preferably in Kotlin or Java).

- Optimize system throughput and latency at scale, with end-user experience in mind.

Required Skills and Experience :

- 4-6+ years of backend development experience with at least 2+ years in a senior or lead role.

- Proven expertise in designing and implementing distributed systems and microservices.

- Strong understanding of system design principles CAP theorem, consistency models, partitioning strategies, etc.

- Experience with real-time communication systems (e.g., chat apps, pub/sub, Web Sockets, messaging queues).

- Proficient in Kotlin, Java, or similar JVM languages.

- Solid experience with cloud platforms AWS preferred (EC2, Lambda, S3, Kinesis, RDS, DynamoDB, etc.).

- Deep experience with REST APIs, OAuth2, and secure backend communication.

- Familiar with event-driven architectures, caching (Redis/Memcached), and database modeling (SQL + NoSQL).

- Comfortable working with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Prior startup experience or greenfield system build-out s.

- Exposure to healthcare systems, HIPAA compliance, or IoT ecosystems.

- Experience with chat frameworks, SSE, WebRTC, or video streaming protocols will be added advantage

- Experience with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Open Telemetry, etc.
