Azure AI Engineer - OpenAI/Logic App

Were looking for a Fractional Azure AI Engineer with a strong background in healthcare systems integration and Microsoft Azure AI services.

You will contribute to designing and implementing intelligent, HIPAA-compliant automation workflows for use cases such as Eligibility Verification and Prior Authorization, working closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

This is a hands-on engineering role with a strategic lensideal for a contractor or fractional talent expert comfortable working across Azure AI, FHIR APIs, and agentic workflows.

Key Responsibilities :

- Develop and deploy AI-enhanced workflows using Azure OpenAI, Logic Apps, and Functions.

- Integrate with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner) and payer APIs (Availity, PVerify) using FHIR/REST.

- Architect end-to-end eligibility and pre-auth automation pipelines using Azure resources.

- Build and secure APIs through Azure API Management with role-based access and audit logging.

- Implement prompt chains, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), and AI agents for task automation.

- Collaborate with solution architects, automation specialists, and domain SMEs to deliver high-value healthcare solutions.

- Maintain documentation, participate in technical reviews, and enable client teams post-delivery.

Required Skills & Experience :

- 5+ years in Azure cloud development, including 2+ years in Azure AI/OpenAI services.

- Proven healthcare project experience, especially with EMRs or payer data exchange.

- Hands-on skills with Logic Apps, Azure Functions, Azure OpenAI, and API Management.

- Familiarity with HIPAA, PHI data workflows, and healthcare integration standards.

- Experience delivering fractional or contract-based engineering work in agile environments.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Azure AI Engineer or Azure Solutions Architect certification.

- Experience with LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or vector databases (e.g., Azure Cognitive Search).

- Prior work with HL7/FHIR API integration.

- Exposure to Workato, Power Automate, or other low-code automation tools.
