What you will be doing:
Technical oversight & execution:
- Oversee the architecture and development of BMRs core platform (ZFS-based storage, backup orchestration, recovery automation).
- Define and execute the technical roadmap for next-gen BCDR capabilities, including AI-driven insights, smart retention, and hybrid cloud recovery.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver enterprise-grade reliability and seamless user experiences.
Team & project leadership:
- Lead and coordinate multiple engineering teams (Java, Python, C++, and frontend) to ensure timely, high-quality releases.
- Collaborate with the Director of Engineering and Product Owner to align on goals, priorities, and technical direction.
- Oversee the complete product lifecycle from architecture and planning to QA, deployment, and maintenance.
- Drive collaboration across backend, frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure efficient communication and delivery.
Core technologies you'll work with:
- Server OS: Debian 12
- Programming languages: Java, Python, C++, ReactJS
- Storage layer: ZFS
- Virtualization targets: Hyper-V, VMware
- Backup targets: Windows endpoints
- Architecture: Multi-service backend with a web-based management console
Process & collaboration:
- Engineering & Delivery Management: Direct multi-disciplinary engineering teams (15+ engineers) delivering high-performance backup and restore software.
- Agile Execution & Tooling: Drive sprint planning, backlog grooming, and team velocity using JIRA; foster an Agile/Scrum environment to ensure predictable, high-quality deliverables.
- DevOps & Development Environment: Utilize Docker to streamline local development setups and maintain environment consistency across developer workstations. Partner with DevOps teams to oversee build, test, and release strategies.
- Quality & Test Automation: Collaborate with QA leadership to define robust testing strategies, incorporating modern automated testing concepts to increase continuous test coverage.
- Security & System Reliability: Embed application security best practices into the SDLC, focusing on secure data handling, encryption, and system hardening.
What we expect from you:
Experience & technical expertise:
- 10 to 15 years of software development experience, including 4 - 6 years in technical or engineering management roles.
- Proven track record of leading multiple teams and technical leads, managing 20+ engineers.
- Strong proficiency in Java, Python, C++, and web-based architectures.
- Hands-on understanding of Linux environments (Debian preferred), file systems, and storage technologies (ZFS preferred).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to align technical execution with business goals.
Good to have:
- Experience managing distributed systems or backup/recovery platforms.
- Familiarity with RESTful API design, service orchestration, and hybrid cloud/on-prem integrations.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, testing automation, and DevOps practices.
- Ability to evaluate, adopt, and integrate emerging technologies into production systems.
