Role : Apigee Architect

Role Summary :

We are looking for an experienced Apigee Architect to lead the design, governance, and operations of enterprise API platforms using Apigee Hybrid and Apigee Edge. This role requires end-to-end ownership across: API Architecture & Design, Platform Engineering & Operations, and API Governance & Security. The architect will act as a single technical anchor across development, platform, and business teams in a high-scale banking environment.

Key Responsibilities :

1. API Platform Architecture :

- Design and govern Apigee Hybrid and Apigee Edge environments.

- Define API architecture standards (proxy design, shared flows, versioning).

- Drive API lifecycle governance across teams.

- Lead API design reviews and approvals.

2. API Development & Governance :

- Define reusable API policies and templates.

- Guide teams on API orchestration, transformations, and error handling.

- Ensure APIs meet banking security and compliance standards.

- Drive API standardization and reuse across platforms.

3. Platform Engineering & Operations :

- Design scalable and highly available API gateway architecture.

- Define deployment models, traffic routing, and failover strategies.

- Lead platform upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.

- Drive capacity planning based on API traffic and usage.

4. Observability & Reliability :

- Define monitoring strategy for APIs and platform.

- Establish SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets.

- Drive incident management and root cause analysis (RCA).

- Implement proactive alerting and performance optimization.

5. Security & Compliance :

- Implement API security standards : OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS.

- Ensure compliance with banking and regulatory requirements.

- Define Zero Trust architecture principles.

- Lead security reviews and vulnerability remediation.

6. DevOps & Automation :

- Define CI/CD pipelines for API deployments.

- Implement policy enforcement and quality gates.

- Drive automation for deployments and operational tasks.

- Support GitOps-based delivery models.

7. Stakeholder Management :

- Act as technical SPOC for client stakeholders.

- Collaborate with development, infra, and security teams.

- Present architecture roadmap and platform improvements.

- Support business growth and onboarding of new APIs/partners.

Technical Skills - Must Have Core Skills :

- Apigee Hybrid & Apigee Edge (Expert Level).

- API Proxy development.

- Policies, Shared Flows.

- Traffic management & analytics.

- API Security : OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS.

- Threat protection & access control.

- API Design : REST API best practices, Versioning, governance, documentation.

- Platform & Tools : API Gateway architecture & operations, CI/CD (Jenkins / GitHub / Terraform), Monitoring (Dynatrace / Prometheus / Grafana), NGINX (basic understanding for routing & SSL).

Nice to Have :

- Experience in banking / BFSI domain.

- Exposure to microservices architecture (Spring Boot).

- Understanding of high-volume transaction systems.

Experience & Qualifications :

- 10 - 15 years of IT experience.

- Minimum 4+ years in API architecture.

- Strong hands-on experience in Apigee Hybrid and Edge.

- Experience in managing large-scale API platforms.

- Prior experience in banking/financial services preferred.
