- The Director, Software Engineering (Management Path) is primarily responsible for leading software engineering strategy, direction, and execution.
- You will leverage your technical expertise and leadership skills to influence cross-functional teams and achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & Management :
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a small team of software engineers.
- Conduct performance evaluations, career development planning, and resource allocation.
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Ensure alignment of team deliverables with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Technical Responsibilities :
- Design, develop, and maintain applications in C#/.NET WPF.
- Author and review software engineering documentation including requirements, architecture, detailed design, and test protocols.
- Implement and maintain automated unit testing and test automation frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with IEC 62304 and other applicable medical device software standards.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making.
Project Oversight :
- Manage project schedules, risks, and deliverables for safety-critical software.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality, Regulatory, and Systems Engineering.
- Drive continuous improvement in software development processes and practices.
Talent & Capability Development :
- Establish sustainable practices for talent acquisition, development, and retention to meet current and future needs.
- Foster a high-performance engineering culture focused on innovation, agility, and continuous learning.
- Play a pivotal role in shaping Alcons software development practices, driving innovation, and scaling the group into a larger, more mature engineering organization.
Qualifications & Experience :
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 15 - 20+ years of experience developing safety-critical software in the medical device industry.
- Proven experience as a working manager, balancing leadership and technical contributions.
- Extensive experience in C#, .NET, WPF development including the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern.
- Additional experience with C++ and Microsoft technology stacks.
- Deep knowledge of IEC 62304 and medical device software lifecycle processes.
- Hands-on experience with Scrum/agile methodologies.
- Proficiency in automated unit testing and test automation frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to author comprehensive software documentation (requirements, architecture, design, test protocols).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
