Job Overview :

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator with deep expertise across relational (MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record of designing, implementing, and optimizing high-performance, highly available database environments both on-premises (VMs) and in the cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP).

You will play a critical role in database architecture, large-scale migrations, performance tuning, security, and ensuring operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, implement, and maintain robust, secure, and scalable database architectures across MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and major NoSQL systems (MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, etc.

- Lead and execute complex database migrations (homogeneous and heterogeneous) including zero-downtime migrations, schema conversions, and cross-cloud/platform migrations.

- Perform advanced performance tuning and optimization of databases and database servers at the query, index, storage, and OS level.

- Optimize database workloads running on virtual machines (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM) and cloud-native environments (RDS, Aurora, Cloud SQL, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, etc.

- Implement and manage high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions (replication, clustering, Always-On Availability Groups, Patroni, Galera, sharding, etc.

- Automate database provisioning, backups, monitoring, and deployments using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) and CI/CD pipelines.

- Establish and enforce database security best practices (encryption at rest/in-transit, RBAC, auditing, masking, vulnerability management).

- Capacity planning, cost optimization, and rightsizing of database instances in cloud environments.

- Collaborate with development, DevOps, and platform teams to review schemas, queries, and application patterns for performance and scalability.

- Participate in on-call rotation and act as escalation point for critical database incidents.

Required Qualifications & Experience :

- 6-10 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator.

- Expert-level knowledge and production experience with :

- MySQL / MariaDB (InnoDB & MyRocks).

- Microsoft SQL Server (20162022+, Always-On, Failover Clustering).

- PostgreSQL (including advanced features : logical replication, extensions, Citus, TimescaleDB).

- At least two major NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, etc.

- Proven track record of successful large-scale database migrations (hundreds of TBs and/or zero-downtime cutovers).

- Extensive experience optimizing databases on virtualized environments (VMware, KVM) and major cloud providers (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, Azure SQL).

- Deep expertise in query optimization, execution plans, indexing strategies, partitioning, and storage engine selection.

- Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python, PowerShell) and proficiency with IaC tools (Terraform preferred).

- Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, CloudWatch, PMM, pg_stat_statements, SQL Server DMVs, etc.

- Solid understanding of Linux/Windows systems internals as they relate to database performance (IO, memory, CPU, networking).

Preferred Skills :

- Certifications : AWS Certified Database Specialty, Microsoft Certified : Azure Database Administrator Associate, PostgreSQL Professional, Oracle/MySQL certifications are a plus.

- Experience with database DevOps practices (Liquibase, Flyway, GitOps for DB changes).

- Knowledge of containerized databases (Kubernetes operators : Zalando Postgres, CrunchyData, MongoDB Community Operator).

- Familiarity with data warehousing (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery) is a plus.
