Role Overview :

We are looking for a Workday Extend Developer with deep technical expertise to design, build, and support custom applications on the Workday Extend platform. This role focuses on delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance applications that extend standard Workday HCM and Finance capabilities.

You will act as a technical owner and subject matter expert for Extend applications driving architecture decisions, complex integrations, and mentoring junior team members while ensuring production stability and alignment with enterprise standards.

Key Responsibilities :

Application Development & Architecture :

- Lead the design and development of end-to-end custom applications using Workday App Builder.

- Architect application components including Pages, Business Objects, Orchestrations, and Security Domains.

- Design and maintain custom data models using Workday Business Objects for non-standard data needs.

- Develop advanced Orchestrations to implement complex business logic, workflows, and validations.

- Build and maintain API-based integrations (REST/SOAP) between Extend apps and third-party platforms.

- Ensure Extend applications follow Workday Canvas Design System for consistent UI/UX.

Technical Leadership & Integrations :

- Act as a technical SME for Workday Extend within the team.

- Guide solution design for integrations, security, and data architecture.

- Ensure secure authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, ISUs, and ISSGs.

- Review and optimize WQL queries and Orchestrations for performance and scalability.

L2/L3 Support & Operations :

- Own production support for Extend applications, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.

- Perform impact analysis for Workday bi-annual releases and API deprecations; plan and execute upgrades.

- Manage application lifecycle from Sandbox to Production, including testing evidence and approvals.

- Diagnose and resolve security access issues and data visibility problems.

- Optimize application performance by minimizing API calls and improving query efficiency.

Mentorship & Collaboration :

- Mentor junior Extend developers and provide technical guidance.

- Collaborate with functional Workday teams, integrations teams, and business stakeholders.

- Contribute to best practices, standards, and reusable Extend components.

- Active Workday Extend Certification Mandatory

- Workday Studio

Education :

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Required Experience & Skills :

Workday & Technical Expertise :

- 6+ years of technical Workday experience, including Extend and/or Integrations.

- Strong hands-on experience with:

- Workday Extend App Builder & Orchestrations

- REST APIs, JSON

- JavaScript and/or Python

- Strong understanding of:

- WQL (Workday Query Language)

- Workday data architecture and security framework

- Relational database concepts

Engineering & DevOps :

- Experience managing CI/CD-style deployments for Extend apps.

- Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and production support skills.

- Experience working in enterprise-scale Workday environments with strict governance.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills :

- Experience integrating serverless platforms (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions) with Workday Extend.

- Exposure to Workday Prism Analytics as a backend for Extend applications.

- Consulting or Workday partner experience.

- Strong documentation, stakeholder communication, and solution-design skills.
