Role :

We are looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer - Java / AWS / Kubernetes to join our cross-functional DevOps team.

In this role, you will design, build, deploy, test, operate, and maintain cloud-native, microservice-based backend solutions end-to-end, contributing to reliable, scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.

You will work with modern technologies including Java, AWS, Kubernetes, microservices, and CI/CD, while collaborating closely with developers, architects, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, customers, and other stakeholders.

You will work independently on complex tasks, contribute to architecture and technical decisions, and take ownership of the quality, reliability, performance, and sustainability of the services you help build.

Beyond individual delivery, you will support the growth of other engineers through mentoring, knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and good engineering practices. Depending on your experience, you will also have opportunities to lead technical initiatives, influence technical direction, reduce technical debt and systemic risks, and contribute to the long-term technical evolution of our systems and platform.

Here's What You'll Focus On :

- Design, build, deploy, test, operate, and maintain backend and cloud-native features end-to-end.

- Design and develop Java-based microservices and backend solutions.

- Translate business and technical requirements into robust, scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.

- Work independently on complex tasks while seeking support when appropriate.

- Ensure code quality, reliability, performance, security, maintainability, and sustainability.

- Build, deploy, and administer solutions running on Kubernetes.

- Work with AWS cloud services to develop and operate scalable solutions.

- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines used in production.

- Apply JUnit and Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.

- Take responsibility across the complete DevOps lifecycle, from development and testing through deployment, monitoring, and production support.

- Participate in and lead code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions.

- Contribute to architecture and technical direction for complex systems and critical components.

- Make technical decisions with awareness of customer value, cost, delivery, business impact, and operational considerations.

- Identify technical risks, improvement opportunities, technical debt, systemic risks, dependencies, and areas for innovation.

- Troubleshoot complex production issues and contribute to root-cause analysis and long-term improvements.

- Drive continuous improvement of systems, services, engineering practices, and delivery capabilities.

- Define, promote, and uphold engineering standards, security practices, operational excellence, and quality.

- Collaborate in cross-functional Agile teams to clarify system context, dependencies, risks, and the bigger picture.

- Mentor and support junior and less experienced engineers through daily collaboration, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.

- Share engineering best practices and lessons learned within the team.

- Take ownership of both individual delivery and team-level outcomes.

- Lead technical initiatives and improvements when needed.

- Contribute to engineering culture and support the wider organization with technical expertise.

About the Team and Context :

You will be part of a cross-functional DevOps team with end-to-end responsibility for the software it develops and operates.

The team works collaboratively across development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support. You will work closely with developers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, architects, customers, and other stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions and continuously improve the way we work.

As an experienced engineer, you will have the opportunity to influence technical discussions, contribute to architecture and engineering practices, and support the development of other engineers.

Technical Skills :

- 5 - 12 years of professional experience in backend software development, software engineering, cloud engineering, or a related field.

- Strong hands-on experience with Java 11 or higher.

- Experience with AWS, preferably including :

1. Lambda

2. EC2

3. ECS

4. SNS / SQS

5. IAM

6. DynamoDB

7. CloudFormation

8. CloudWatch

9. API Gateway

10. REST APIs

- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including building, deploying, and administering solutions.

- Strong understanding and practical experience with microservices architecture.

- Good understanding and practical experience with JUnit and Test-Driven Development (TDD).

- Strong experience with Git.

- Experience with CI/CD in production environments.

- Strong understanding of DevOps and experience taking responsibility across the complete DevOps lifecycle.

- Experience with certificate lifecycle management.

- Practical experience with Agile methodologies, preferably Scrum and/or SAFe.

- Strong understanding of software quality, security, reliability, performance, and maintainability.

- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Architecture & Technical Leadership :

- Experience contributing to or leading architecture and technical direction for complex systems or critical components.

- Ability to make sound technical decisions and explain technical trade-offs.

- Experience identifying and managing technical debt, systemic risks, and dependencies.

- Ability to balance technical quality with customer value, cost, delivery, and business impact.

- Experience establishing or promoting engineering standards and best practices.

- Ability to provide technical guidance without unnecessarily prescribing implementation details.

- Comfortable leading technical initiatives and facilitating technical discussions when required.

Collaboration & Leadership :

- Experience mentoring and supporting engineers.

- Strong communication and technical influencing skills.

- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, architecture, and business functions.
