Role Summary

Western Digital is seeking a high-caliber Technologist in Test Engineering to spearhead the architectural validation and security governance of next-generation storage solutions.

With over 14 years of experience, you will serve as a subject matter expert in NVMe, NVMeOF, and high-speed interconnects like PCIe and Ethernet.

This is a strategic leadership role where you will define advanced system-level test strategies, lead complex failure analysis, and oversee the implementation of secure development processes.

You will be responsible for the performance characterization of storage architectures and the integration of cutting-edge cryptographic protocolsincluding Post-Quantum Cryptography and TLS 1.3to ensure data integrity in-flight and at rest.

Operating in a hybrid capacity, you will collaborate with ASIC, Firmware, and Hardware teams to drive the reliability of Western Digitals global product portfolio.

Responsibilities :

- Architectural Test Leadership : Define, govern, and execute comprehensive system-level test plans for high-performance storage products, ensuring 100% feature validation across complex product cycles.

- Protocol Mastery & Validation : Lead validation efforts for mission-critical protocols including NVMe, NVMe-oF (RDMA/TCP), PCIe Gen 5/6, and Ethernet, focusing on interoperability and spec compliance.

- Security Architecture Testing : Oversee the validation of secure boot processes, secure firmware downloads, attestation, and secure debug interfaces to maintain a "Root of Trust."

- Cryptographic Implementation : Ensure robust Data-in-Flight encryption using IPsec, TLS 1.3, and AES-GCM; lead the transition and testing strategies for Post-Quantum Cryptography.

- Performance Characterization : Conduct deep-dive performance benchmarking and anomaly root cause analysis (RCA) to optimize throughput, IOPS, and latency across diverse workloads.

- Linux Kernel & Automation : Develop advanced automation frameworks and instrumentation scripts using Python and Linux Kernel tools to facilitate high-scale regression testing.

- Root Cause Analysis (RCA) : Lead cross-functional teams in the failure analysis of complex hardware/software interactions, providing definitive resolutions to blocking issues.

- Secure Development Governance : Implement secure development processes, including vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, to mitigate risks throughout the SDLC.

- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with ASIC and Firmware design teams to influence "Design for Testability" (DFT) and ensure hardware/software configuration compatibility.

- Customer Advocacy : Drive the troubleshooting of complex customer hardware/software configurations, translating field issues into actionable test cases.

Technical Requirements :

- Core Storage Expertise : 14+ years of experience in Storage/Networking validation with expert-level knowledge of NVMe and RDMA.

- Interconnect Proficiency : Deep technical understanding of PCIe (Gen 4/5/6) and high-speed Ethernet physical and link layer characteristics.

- Security Stack : Proven experience with Secure Boot, Attestation, and Public/Private Key Cryptography.

- Encryption Protocols : Hands-on expertise in TLS 1.3, IPsec, and AES-GCM implementation within storage environments.

- Kernel Instrumentation : Proficiency in Linux debugging, kernel tracing, and high-level automation using Python.

- Validation Methodologies : Expert in defining test coverage strategies, regression suites, and performance characterization models.

Preferred Skills :

- Post-Quantum Cryptography : Early-adoption knowledge of post-quantum algorithms and their impact on storage security.

- Penetration Testing : Practical experience in ethical hacking or penetration testing for embedded systems and ASICs.

- Hardware/Firmware Co-design : Ability to read and interpret ASIC specifications and firmware code to enhance test precision.

- Analytical Leadership : Strong logical skills to navigate "impossible" failure scenarios and mentor junior engineering teams.

- Hybrid Collaboration : Excellent communication skills to lead global engineering synchronization in a hybrid work environment
