Virtusa - Python Developer - Django

About the Role :

We are looking for an experienced Python Developer with strong hands-on expertise in Django, REST API development, Microsoft Azure, and database design. The role will involve designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining scalable web applications and backend services while ensuring high standards of performance, security, reliability, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable Python applications using Django.

- Develop robust and secure RESTful APIs for data integration, retrieval, and communication between applications.

- Design and implement Django models, ORM-based data access layers, business logic, and backend services.

- Develop scalable web applications and backend services on the Microsoft Azure platform.

- Design efficient database schemas and optimize queries and data-access patterns for large datasets.

- Integrate applications with internal and external systems through APIs and other integration mechanisms.

- Write clean, maintainable, well-documented, and testable code following software engineering best practices.

- Develop unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews and quality improvement activities.

- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to application performance, scalability, security, availability, and reliability.

- Monitor application health and support production deployments and post-production issues.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, QA, DevOps, Data, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.

- Contribute to application architecture, technical design, deployment, and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, and operational guidelines.

Required Skills & Experience :

- 5 - 11 years of experience in Python software development.

- Strong hands-on expertise in Django and Python backend development.

- Strong experience developing RESTful APIs using Django and/or Django REST Framework.

- Strong understanding of Django ORM, models, views, serializers, authentication, and backend architecture.

- Hands-on experience developing and deploying applications on Microsoft Azure.

- Strong understanding of relational databases, schema design, indexing, query optimization, and data modelling.

- Experience working with large datasets and designing scalable data-access solutions.

- Good understanding of API security, authentication, authorization, input validation, and secure coding practices.

- Experience with Git, testing, debugging, CI/CD, and software deployment practices.

- Strong troubleshooting and performance-optimization skills.

- Good understanding of application scalability, reliability, and production support.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
