Vice President of Engineering - Embedded System

Position : Vice President of Engineering.

Location : Hyderabad, India.

Department : Engineering.

Reports to : Chief Technology Officer (CTO) / CEO.

Employment Type : Full-Time.

Overview :

As the VP of Engineering with a primary focus on software, you will be the technical visionary and execution leader for all software development across our product ecosystem.

You will own the entire software stackembedded systems, cloud platforms, mobile applications, and data analyticsthat powers our vehicles and customer experience.

This role is critical for building a world-class, scalable, and secure software engineering organization that delivers cutting-edge features with reliability and speed.

Key Responsibilities :

a) Technical & Product/Program Leadership :

- Define and drive the long-term software architecture and technology roadmap aligned with product vision and business goals.

- Lead the development of all software products : Vehicle Software (Embedded/BMS/Autonomy), Cloud Backend (IoT, Telematics, Fleet Management), Mobile Apps (Customer & Diagnostic), and Data/AI Platforms and manage.

- Ensure robust, secure, and scalable software development practices for safety-critical and consumer-facing systems.

- Partner closely with Product Management, Hardware Engineering, and Design to deliver a cohesive and superior user experience.

b) Engineering execution & Operations :

- Build, mentor, and scale high-performance engineering teams (development, QA, DevOps, SRE).

- Establish and champion engineering best practices (Agile/SCRUM, CI/CD, code reviews, testing, documentation).

- Oversee project planning, delivery timelines, and resource allocation to ensure on-time, high-quality releases.

- Implement and manage the engineering toolchain, infrastructure, and DevOps culture.

c) Team-building & Culture :

- Recruit top-tier engineering talent and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.

- Develop career growth frameworks and mentorship programs to nurture engineering leaders.

- Promote a culture of ownership, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement.

d) Quality, Security & Compliance :

- Institute rigorous software quality assurance processes, including cybersecurity protocols for connected vehicles.

- Ensure compliance with relevant automotive software standards (e.g., ASPICE, ISO 26262) and data privacy regulations.

- Own the reliability, performance, and observability of all production software systems.

e) Strategic Collaboration :

- Act as a key member of the senior leadership team, contributing to overall business strategy.

- Evaluate and manage partnerships with third-party tech vendors, suppliers, and open-source communities.

- Stay ahead of industry trends in automotive software, EV technology, and software engineering practices.

Qualifications & Experience :

- 12+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5+ years in a senior engineering leadership role (Director, Sr. Director, or VP) at a product-based tech company.

- Proven experience in building and scaling complex, distributed software systems (cloud-native platforms, IoT/embedded systems, or mobile applications at scale).

- Deep hands-on technical expertise in modern software stacks (e.g., Python/Java/Go, C/C++ for embedded, AWS/Azure, Kubernetes, microservices).

- Demonstrated success in building, mentoring, and retaining high-caliber engineering teams of 50+ engineers.

- Strong understanding of SDLC, DevOps, and platform engineering in a fast-paced, agile environment.

- Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

- Based in or willing to relocate to Hyderabad.

Good-to-have :

- Experience in Automotive, EV, Mobility, or IoT/Embedded product companies.

- Familiarity with automotive SPICE (ASPICE), functional safety (ISO 26262), and connected vehicle security.

- Background in developing real-time systems, telematics, or over-the-air (OTA) update platforms.

- Prior experience in a high-growth startup/scale-up environment.
