Responsibilities :

- Lead and manage multiple backend engineering teams, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing environment.

- Own the overall technical vision and strategy for the backend organization, ensuring alignment with business objectives and product roadmap.

- Drive the planning, execution, and delivery of complex backend initiatives across multiple teams, ensuring they are on time, within scope, and meet high-quality standards.

- Collaborate closely with product management, frontend leadership, and other stakeholders to define product strategy, priorities, and technical direction.

- Develop and empower engineering leaders (Team Leads) within your organization, providing mentorship, guidance, and opportunities for growth.

- Foster a culture of technical excellence, promoting best practices, coding standards, and architectural consistency across teams.

- Oversee architectural decisions and ensure the scalability, reliability, security, and performance of our backend systems.

- Proactively identify and address organizational and technical challenges, implementing solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

- Drive the professional development and career growth of engineers within your organization through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

- Lead and contribute to the recruitment and onboarding of top engineering talent.

- Advocate for and implement improvements to our engineering processes, tools, and infrastructure.

- Manage budgets and resources effectively for your engineering teams.

- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing regular updates on team progress, challenges, and strategic direction.

- Contribute to the overall engineering strategy and culture of the company.

Qualifications :

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent extensive practical experience).

- Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in backend software development, with a significant focus on the MERN stack (Node.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) in scalable, production environments.

- Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in managing and leading multiple software engineering teams and/or engineering leaders.

- Deep understanding of JavaScript (ES6+) and asynchronous programming paradigms.

- Extensive experience in designing and architecting complex backend systems using Node.js and enterprise-grade frameworks like NestJS.

- Deep expertise in designing and optimizing data models and database architectures for both relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases at scale.

- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and API design principles.

- Excellent understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban) and their effective implementation at scale.

- Proven ability to develop and execute technical strategy, aligning with business goals.

- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire large technical teams and stakeholders.

- Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and grow high-performing engineering teams and leaders.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex organizational and technical challenges.

- Experience managing budgets and resources effectively.

Bonus Points :

- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and managing teams leveraging their backend services at scale.

- Deep understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) in a production environment.

- Experience with building and managing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices across multiple teams.

- Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, and observability practices for large-scale distributed systems.

- Experience with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) and their implementation across teams.

- Active participation in the tech community and a strong network within the industry.

- Experience in driving significant performance improvements and scaling initiatives across multiple backend systems.
