Description :
Product Designer (Systems & Interaction)
Experience : 1-3 Years
Role Summary :
Toddle is seeking a Systems-focused Product Designer to architect the next generation of our AI-first teaching and learning ecosystem. In this role, you will move beyond surface-level UI to design deeply integrated features that solve high-density administrative challenges for educators. Utilizing the Dieter Rams philosophy of "Less, but better," you will be responsible for the end-to-end design of complex modulesfrom Curriculum Planning and Competency-based Assessments to Automated Progress Reporting. You will leverage Figma's advanced features to build scalable component libraries and high-fidelity interactive prototypes that communicate complex pedagogical workflows to engineering and product stakeholders. This is a technical design role requiring a sophisticated understanding of information architecture, AI-driven UX patterns, and the ability to maintain design parity across our four-app suite.
Responsibilities :
- End-to-End Systems Design : Own the full product design lifecycle for high-complexity features, translating the International Baccalaureate (IB) and other educational frameworks into logical, scalable digital structures.
- AI-UX Integration : Design and iterate on AI-embedded workflows (LLM-driven lesson planning, automated assessment grading) to ensure AI interactions are non-intrusive, reliable, and augmentative for teachers.
- Advanced Prototyping : Build high-fidelity, logic-driven prototypes in Figma to test complex interactions, state changes, and cross-platform navigation before engineering handoff.
- Information Architecture & Wireframing : Deconstruct multifaceted educator workflows into intuitive sitemaps, user flows, and low-to-mid fidelity wireframes that prioritize cognitive load reduction.
- Component Library Governance : Contribute to and maintain Toddles design system, ensuring technical consistency in atomic design elements across the Web, Educator, Family, and Student applications.
- Cross-Functional Handoff : Partner with Engineering to ensure high-fidelity implementation, utilizing tools like Storybook or inspecting CSS/Swift/Kotlin properties to maintain design integrity.
- User Research & Data-Driven Design : Conduct ethnographic research and usability testing with school leadership and educators to validate design hypotheses and iterate based on quantitative and qualitative signals.
- Heuristic Evaluation : Perform regular audits of the existing platform to identify friction points, accessibility gaps (WCAG), and opportunities for UI/UX optimization.
- MVP Definition & Scoping : Collaborate with Product Managers to define the technical scope of MVPs, ensuring a balance between "magical" user experience and iterative delivery cycles.
- Mentorship & Design Ops : Coach junior team members on technical design execution and contribute to the evolution of Design Operations (Design Ops) to improve team velocity and output quality.
Technical Requirements :
- Core Experience : 1-3 years designing digital products with a focus on B2B SaaS, enterprise platforms, or complex productivity tools.
- Figma Mastery : Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including Auto Layout, Variables, Advanced Prototyping, and Design System management.
- Visual Design Systems : Strong technical grasp of typography, grid systems, spatial relationships, and the application of atomic design principles.
- Platform Knowledge : Deep understanding of the technical constraints and HIG/Material Design guidelines for Web, iOS, and Android.
- User Research Methodologies : Proficiency in conducting contextual inquiries, card sorting, and remote usability testing using tools like Maze or UserTesting.
- Front-end Literacy : Familiarity with the Box Model, CSS Flexbox/Grid, and responsive design principles to facilitate seamless engineering collaboration.
- HCI Foundations : Strong understanding of Human-Computer Interaction principles and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1).
Preferred Skills :
- AI Interaction Design : Knowledge of designing for "Human-in-the-loop" AI systems and prompt-based UI patterns.
- Data Visualization : Experience designing complex data dashboards and gradebook visualizations that make information scannable and actionable.
- Motion Design : Ability to use Principle, After Effects, or Figma Smart Animate to define micro-interactions that communicate system status and feedback.
- Educational Frameworks : Exposure to K-12 educational standards or the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.
- Strategic Communication : Ability to articulate design decisions through the lens of business strategy, user impact, and technical feasibility.
