Thryve Digital - Senior Mainframe Application Developer - JCL/COBOL

We are seeking a seasoned Mainframe Application Developer with strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS, REXX, and Easytrieve to join our team.

This role will lead the development and support of complex mainframe applications across critical risk and business platforms.

You will collaborate with business analysts, technical teams, and project stakeholders to ensure reliable, high-performance systems and drive continuous improvement through automation and performance tuning.

Essential Responsibilities :

- Lead the analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of complex mainframe application enhancements and support solutions.

- Provide technical support for business-critical applications and participate in system development projects of moderate to high complexity.

- Maintain and enhance systems using COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS, VSAM, REXX, and Easytrieve.

- Support and troubleshoot issues in production, including on-call and 24x7 availability when necessary.

- Create and modify automated scripts and utilities using REXX for improved productivity.

- Utilize Easytrieve for data extraction and manipulation across mainframe data sources.

- Conduct performance tuning and root cause analysis to ensure optimal application efficiency.

- Partner with DBAs and IMS teams to design, develop, and test IMS DB/DC applications.

- Ensure quality code delivery to DEV, UAT, and PROD environments with complete documentation.

- Drive process improvements and automation opportunities using mainframe tools.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into scalable, reliable technical solutions.

- Lead project activities in various roles, including Developer, Technical Lead, or Project Manager, depending on expertise.

- Mentor and guide junior developers on best practices and coding standards.

- Stay current with evolving mainframe technologies, tools, and trends.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- 6+ years of hands-on mainframe development and automation experience.

- Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS DB/DC, VSAM, REXX, Easytrieve

- Experience with Mainframe application performance tuning and root cause analysis

- Experience with Script automation using REXX and Data extraction/reporting with Easytrieve

- Experience with Project management tools, version control, and full SDLC

- Strong communication and client management skills.

- Experience with complex multi-system integration, risk platforms, and enterprise-grade environments.

- Proven ability to lead technical teams, mentor junior staff, and manage concurrent priorities.

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
