Job Overview :

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SQL Server & Azure Database Administrator to manage, support, and optimize both on-premises SQL Server and cloud-based Azure SQL environments. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong troubleshooting capabilities, and hands-on experience across database administration, performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, and security. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring database reliability, scalability, and compliance in hybrid and cloud-first environments.

Role Purpose :

To provide end-to-end administration and operational excellence for SQL Server and Azure SQL platforms, ensuring high availability, optimal performance, secure access, and continuous improvement aligned with business and technology goals.

Key Responsibilities :

Database Administration & Operations :

- Administer, maintain, and optimize SQL Server databases across versions 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019, and 2022, as well as Azure SQL environments.

- Perform database upgrades, migrations, backups, restores, patching, and version management.

- Manage day-to-day database operations across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures.

Performance, Availability & Scalability :

- Monitor database performance and proactively implement performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.

- Design, implement, and support high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions using:

- SQL Server Always On Availability Groups

- Log Shipping

- SQL Replication

- Azure Geo-Replication

- Participate in capacity planning, infrastructure reviews, and scalability assessments.

Automation & Scripting :

- Automate routine administrative tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, and Azure automation tools.

- Develop scripts to improve operational efficiency, monitoring, and alerting.

Cloud & Hybrid Environment Support :

- Manage and support Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure PaaS databases, and hybrid database architectures.

- Support cloud migration initiatives, including planning, execution, and post-migration optimization.

- Work with cloud-native and hybrid tools to ensure seamless database operations.

Application & Development Support :

- Collaborate with development teams to support SQL-based applications and integrations.

- Provide operational support for SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS solutions.

- Assist in database design reviews and deployment planning.

Security, Compliance & Governance :

- Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

- Implement best practices for encryption, authentication, authorization, and auditing.

- Support data governance, compliance, and audit requirements across environments.

Troubleshooting & Documentation :

- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to performance, connectivity, availability, and data integrity.

- Document database configurations, operational procedures, standards, and best practices.

- Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Experience and Skills :

- 813 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Database Administrator.

- Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration across multiple versions.

- Proven experience managing Azure SQL services, including Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure PaaS databases.

- Advanced skills in performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.

- Hands-on experience with backup and restore strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery planning.

- Strong scripting skills in PowerShell and T-SQL.

- Practical knowledge of SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.

- Familiarity with cloud migration tools and hybrid database environments.

- Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks.

- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
