VMware to Hypervisor Migration Engineer

We are seeking a seasoned VMware to Hypervisor Migration Engineer to lead the end-to-end migration of enterprise virtual infrastructure from VMware vSphere platforms to alternative hypervisors such as Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM, Nutanix AHV, or Proxmox VE.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in virtualization technologies, migration tooling, and infrastructure design, with a focus on minimizing downtime and ensuring business continuity.

Key Responsibilities:

- Analyze existing VMware vSphere / ESXi / vCenter environments: hosts, clusters, VMs, networking, and storage.

- Conduct pre-migration assessments to determine technical compatibility and identify risks.

- Define migration roadmaps, resource requirements, cutover strategies, and contingency plans.

- Design new hypervisor infrastructures tailored to business needs and industry best practices.

- Prepare High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs) for target platforms.

- Use migration tools and utilities like VMware vMotion, VMware Converter, Microsoft SCVMM, Hyper-V Manager, Zerto, Veeam Backup & Replication and P2V/V2V methods

- Lead and perform live or staged migrations of virtual workloads.

- Implement migration methodologies to ensure data consistency, minimal downtime, and rollback safety.

- Conduct thorough post-migration testing

- Investigate and resolve post-migration incidents or anomalies.

- Fine-tune the new environment for performance, scalability, and security.

- Develop handover documentation, support runbooks, and training for operations teams.

Required Skills & Experience :

- 6+ years of experience in virtualization, with deep knowledge of VMware vSphere/vCenter, and 3+ years in hypervisor migrations.

- Hands-on expertise with Hyper-V, KVM, Nutanix AHV, or Proxmox VE.

- Strong understanding of Networking, Storage, Snapshot and backup technologies

- Experience with migration tools such as Zerto, Veeam, VMware Converter, SCVMM, or similar

- Familiarity with scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Ansible) for automation is a plus.

- Ability to write clear and concise documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

- VMware certifications

- Microsoft certifications

- Red Hat or Linux-based virtualization experience

- Experience with hybrid or cloud migration
