Synapse XTL - Generative AI Engineering Manager

Job Description :

As Generative AI Engineering Manager, you will lead, grow, and inspire a team of AI/ML engineers delivering cutting-edge generative AI products. You will set the technical direction for your team, own the delivery roadmap, and serve as the bridge between engineering execution and product strategy. This role requires equal strength in people leadership, technical depth, and stakeholder communication.

Key Responsibilities :

- Hire, onboard, and retain a high-performing team of Generative AI engineers across varied experience levels.

- Set clear goals, run regular 1 : 1s, provide structured feedback, and create growth paths for each team member.

- Foster a culture of technical excellence, psychological safety, and continuous learning.

- Resolve team-level blockers and escalate organisational impediments proactively.

- Provide hands-on technical direction for LLM-based systems, RAG pipelines, fine-tuning workflows, and agentic architectures.

- Lead architecture reviews, define engineering standards, and ensure code quality across the team.

- Partner with the AI Architect and senior engineers on platform design decisions and technology selection.

- Stay current with advances in generative AI and guide the team in adopting relevant innovations.

- Own the team delivery roadmap - plan sprints, manage dependencies, and report progress to leadership.

- Define and track key engineering KPIs including velocity, quality, latency, and uptime.

- Drive delivery of AI solutions for contact centre automation, document intelligence, and enterprise micro-applications.

- Balance technical debt, feature delivery, and infrastructure investment across competing priorities.

- Partner with product, design, and client success teams to translate requirements into engineering plans.

- Communicate project status, risks, and technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

- Collaborate with vertical leads in education, legal, and compliance to ensure domain requirements are met.

Qualifications :

- 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years in an engineering management or tech lead role.

- Deep hands-on background in machine learning and generative AI - you can credibly review architecture decisions and debug production AI systems.

- Strong understanding of LLM application patterns : RAG, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and agentic frameworks.

- Experience managing delivery in fast-paced, product-driven environments.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership.

- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with the modern AI/ML stack (PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain, or similar).

Preferred :

- Experience scaling AI teams in a startup or high-growth environment.

- Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and MLOps practices.

- Background in regulated industries such as legal, compliance, or edtech.

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
