Role : Lead Engineer, Platform

We are looking for a hands-on leader to guide our Platform Engineering team. This role is a mix of strategy and execution : you set direction and build a strong, healthy team while also staying close enough to the technology to roll up your sleeves, dive into code or architecture, and unblock the team when needed.

This is a true player-coach position : you re accountable for people, process, and outcomes, but you also lead by example through direct technical contribution. You will report to the Senior Director of Engineering in this role.

What youll do On any given day, you might :

- Shape Architecture : Drive the technical vision for core platform services. Have strong opinions on system design and North Star Architecture, and guide teams to align with it.

- Lead by Example : Be a hands-on technical leader, contributing directly to high-impact projects (Big Rocks) with high output and uncompromising quality.

- Mentor & Guide : Provide day-to-day technical guidance, unblock teams, and help engineers grow through thoughtful reviews and best-practice sharing.

- Plan & Deliver : Collaborate on scope, milestones, and execution plans that promote incremental delivery and meaningful impact.

- Partner Cross-Functionally : Work closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to turn business objectives into elegant, reliable technical solutions.

- Build for the Future : Develop and evolve core services that scale with the companys growth, anticipating needs and designing with flexibility in mind.

What you bring :

- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ years building and scaling platform systems.

- Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms (preferably GCP), and multi-tenant SaaS architectures.

- Strong background in containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) along with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

- Hands-on expertise across the stack : designing microservices in Python and Elixir (GraphQL, REST, gRPC), building React/TypeScript frontends, managing data with PostgreSQL and Cloud Storage, scaling with Redis and Pub/Sub, and implementing observability with Cloud Logging, Monitoring, and Sentry.

- Domain experience in platform services a plus : authentication, authorization, identity management, and multi-channel notifications.

- Proven ability to design and deliver high-traffic, high-availability systems that are scalable, resilient, and secure.

- Track record of anticipating technical pitfalls and making proactive design choices to avoid them.

- Experience building flexible, future-proof systems that adapt easily to new business needs.

- Hands-on technical leadership : youre the go-to person for unblocking, reviewing, and leading large-scale technical initiatives end-to-end.

- Collaborative product mindset, with success translating requirements into technical solutions alongside Product and Design partners.

- Passion for engineering excellence bringing in new tools, practices, and ideas that elevate the whole team.

- Strong mentorship and influence skills; you raise the technical bar across teams by sharing knowledge and modeling best practices.

- Availability for on-call rotation, ensuring mission-critical systems get timely, effective attention.
