Our engineering teams build and operate the systems that power loan origination, underwriting, disbursal, and servicing at scale, in a fast-moving, high-ownership environment.

Role Overview :

We are looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to guide the design, development, and delivery of backend systems within our Engineering organization. This role combines strong individual technical contribution with leadership of a small team - owning architecture decisions, driving engineering best practices, and mentoring engineers, while working closely with product, QA, and other engineering functions to ship reliable, scalable systems.

Key Responsibilities :

- Lead the design and architecture of backend services and APIs, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.

- Own technical delivery for your team - breaking down requirements, estimating effort, and driving execution to deadlines.

- Write high-quality, well-tested code and set the technical bar through hands-on contribution and code reviews.

- Mentor and grow a team of software engineers; support their technical development and career growth.

- Collaborate with Product Management to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.

- Drive engineering best practices - coding standards, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and documentation.

- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, and lead root-cause analysis for critical incidents.

- Evaluate and introduce new tools, frameworks, and technologies where they add clear value.

- Partner with cross-functional teams (DevOps, Data, Risk, Compliance) to deliver integrated solutions.

Required Qualifications & Skills :

- 5 - 8 years of professional experience in backend software engineering, with demonstrated technical leadership.

- Strong programming skills in at least one backend language such as Java, Node.js, or Python.

- Solid experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices-based architectures.

- Good understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL/PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis) and data modeling.

- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

- Experience with system design for high-availability, high-throughput applications.

- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and automated testing practices.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound architectural trade-offs.

- Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading a small team, formally or informally.

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with product and cross-functional stakeholders.

Good to Have :

- Experience working on a lending, credit, or broader fintech/BFSI platform is a strong plus.

- Exposure to loan origination, underwriting, or credit risk systems.

- Familiarity with payment gateway integrations, KYC/AML workflows, or regulatory/compliance requirements in financial services.

- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar).
