We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Engineer - Backend to serve as a technical pillar for our engineering team in Bangalore. As a Staff Engineer, your impact will extend far beyond individual execution. You will shape the technical direction of our platform, raise the engineering bar across multiple teams, and take end-to-end ownership of complex, mission-critical systems.

You will act as a force multiplier: influencing architectural decisions, leading high- and low-level designs, mentoring engineers, and driving a culture of engineering excellence. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Java, the Spring ecosystem, distributed systems, and data infrastructure, coupled with the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable, production-grade solutions in the fast-paced healthtech sector.

Responsibilities :

- Design and Drive : Lead the High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) for complex backend systems, features, and scalable microservices.

- Standardise : Define, document, and enforce engineering standards, architectural patterns, and best practices across all backend services.

- Review and Decide : Drive critical design reviews and technical decisions, successfully balancing pragmatic delivery with long-term scalability.

- Innovate : Own the technical roadmap for core backend domains and facilitate cross-functional architecture discussions.

- Execute : Take complete ownership of large-scale backend initiatives from initial requirements and system design through deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement.

- Optimise : Proactively identify and resolve systemic issues, including performance bottlenecks, reliability gaps, and technical debt.

- Collaborate : Partner closely with Engineering Managers and Product Managers to scope and deliver high-impact features on time and at scale.

- Accelerate : Drive improvements in overall engineering velocity through process optimisation, advanced tooling, and developer experience enhancements.

- Set the Bar : Lead by example through rigorous code reviews, proactively identifying edge cases, design gaps, and performance concerns.

- Champion Best Practices : Advocate for and implement test-driven development (TDD), CI/CD best practices, and robust observability standards.

- Maintain Health : Actively manage and eliminate technical debt to ensure the codebase remains agile, maintainable, and production-ready.

- Coach : Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, elevating their technical capabilities and accelerating their career growth.

- Cultivate : Foster a team culture rooted in extreme ownership, technical curiosity, and continuous improvement.

- Unblock : Serve as a primary technical resource and sounding board for the team, unblocking challenges and guiding critical technical decisions.

Requirements :

Education : Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.

Experience : 8+ years of hands-on experience in backend software engineering, with a proven track record of building, scaling, and maintaining distributed systems.

Technical Competencies :

- Backend Mastery : Deep, hands-on proficiency in Java and the Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data), with extensive experience building production-grade microservices.

- Messaging and Streaming : Proven expertise in designing and operating event-driven architectures using Kafka(including high-throughput event pipelines and consumer group management).

- Database Infrastructure : Extensive hands-on experience across relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), document stores (MongoDB), and in-memory data stores (Redis). Strong grasp of schema design, query optimisation, and advanced caching strategies.

- System Architecture : Strong command of distributed systems, RESTful API design, and performance tuning. Exceptional ability to produce rigorous HLD/LLD documentation.

Leadership and Soft Skills :

- Technical Influence : Demonstrated ability to drive consensus, set standards, and influence architectural decisions across teams without requiring direct reporting authority.

- Ownership Mindset : A profound sense of accountability, you build it, you own it, from local environment to production reliability.

- Collaboration : Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable aligning engineering, product, and executive leadership on technical vision.

Preferred Qualifications (Good to Have) :

- Workflow Orchestration : Hands-on experience with Temporal for complex, long-running workflow orchestration is a massive plus.

- Polyglot Capabilities : Production-level experience with Go/Golang is a strong differentiator.

- Domain Expertise : Background in HealthTech, EMR/EHR systems, or building HIPAA-compliant platforms.

- AI-Augmented Engineering : Experience leveraging AI coding assistants and agents (e. g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) to meaningfully boost personal and team productivity.

- Cloud and Infrastructure : Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and deploying cloud-native applications on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
