Locus is looking for a highly experienced Staff Engineer - Backend to define, architect, and scale critical backend systems powering global operations. This role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, backend architecture, scalability, and platform engineering, along with strong technical leadership and ownership.

You will own high-impact backend applications end-to-end while driving engineering excellence across architecture, reliability, observability, and system performance.

Key Responsibilities :

- Own one or more core backend applications end-to-end, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.

- Lead the design, architecture, and development of complex distributed systems, frameworks, and backend services.

- Drive engineering excellence through roadmaps focused on system reliability, observability, performance, and operational maturity.

- Analyze and optimize systems for latency, throughput, efficiency, and large-scale production performance.

- Collaborate with Product, Data, Infrastructure, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

- Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous learning.

- Define coding standards, conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and promote engineering best practices.

- Stay updated on emerging technologies, frameworks, and engineering patterns to strengthen the technology stack.

- Contribute to hiring and help attract high-caliber engineering talent.

Mandatory Requirements :

- 9+ years of backend engineering experience with strong expertise in Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and Microservices.

- Proven experience building large-scale, high-performance distributed systems with measurable production impact related to latency, throughput, uptime, scalability, or reliability.

- Must have worked as SDE-3 / Tech Lead / Lead Software Engineer for at least 2.5 years.

- Designation should be clearly reflected in the resume.

- Strong expertise in Data Structures & Algorithms, System Design, Design Patterns, and Problem Solving.

- Strong experience owning architecture and building scalable, reliable core backend/platform services, not feature-only engineering work.

- Hands-on experience with SQL / NoSQL Databases, REST / gRPC APIs, Concurrency, and Async Processing.

- Experience with AWS / GCP, CI/CD pipelines, Observability, and Monitoring frameworks.

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Prior experience in tech-first, high-growth product companies, including Series B+ / Unicorn / Decacorn startups or global technology companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, or equivalent organizations.

- Strong preference for candidates with minimum 2 years stability across previous organizations.

- B.Tech in Computer Science or related field from Tier 1 / Tier 2 colleges preferred.
