Job Summary :

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive L1 SQL Database Administrator with 34 years of experience to join our IT operations team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring their health, availability, and performance. The role involves routine operational tasks, basic troubleshooting, and escalation to senior DBAs when necessary.

Key Responsibilities :

- Monitor SQL Server database health and performance.

- Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including:

- Backups and restores

- Indexing and optimization

- Handle database installation, configuration, and patch management.

- Respond to basic support tickets related to database issues.

- Monitor and troubleshoot scheduled jobs and resolve failures.

- Escalate complex issues to L2/L3 DBA teams as required.

- Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations and support procedures.

- Provide on-call support under supervision.

- Participate in Disaster Recovery (DR) drill activities.

- Perform database refresh activities across non-production and production environments.

- Configure and maintain Always On Availability Groups.

- Configure and maintain Log Shipping for high availability and disaster recovery.

- Manage database security, including user account management and access permissions.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

- 3 to 4 years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server.

- Basic knowledge of database architecture, SQL queries, and performance tuning.

- Familiarity with backup/restore strategies and DR procedures.

- Understanding of SQL Server Agent job monitoring and troubleshooting.

- Experience with Always On and Log Shipping configurations is a plus.

- Basic scripting knowledge (T-SQL, PowerShell is a plus).

- Good documentation and communication skills.

- Ability to work in a team environment and take direction from senior DBAs.

Nice to Have :

- Microsoft certification (e.g., MCSA, DP-300) is a plus.

- Exposure to cloud-based SQL solutions (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS).

- Familiarity with ITIL ticketing systems and change management processes.
