OVERVIEW

The SAP FI/CO Architect Lead is a senior, hands-on SAP finance role responsible for the design integrity, delivery, and ongoing stability of SAP FI/CO solutions supporting a complex, US-based business. This role serves as the primary FI/CO solution lead within the Global Capability Center, providing functional leadership, configuration expertise, and delivery ownership across SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA environments. The role combines deep, hands-on SAP FI/CO configuration capability with architectural judgment and area leadership, operating in close collaboration with US-based SAP and finance leaders.

The ideal candidate is finance-first, comfortable owning FI/CO design and configuration decisions, and capable of leading SAP resources through expertise, collaboration, and accountability. Working knowledge of SAP SD and its integration with FI/CO is a nice to have to support cross-functional coordination, but this role does not own SD configuration.

This role operates within a global delivery model where solution decisions are made collaboratively, with final alignment and escalation shared with US leadership.

KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES :

- Own SAP FI/CO solution design and configuration standards across ECC and S/4HANA

- Ensure SAP finance solutions are accurate, compliant, scalable, and production-ready

- Act as the FI/CO area lead for SAP resources within the GCC, providing functional direction and delivery leadership

- Act as the primary FI/CO escalation point within the GCC for complex design, configuration, and production issues, escalating collaboratively with US leadership as needed

- Balance solution quality, delivery timelines, and cost considerations while maintaining finance and control integrity

- Maintain high-quality production support and continuous improvement for SAP finance processes

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

SAP FI/CO Architecture and Configuration :

- Serve as the primary functional lead and design authority for SAP FI/CO within the GCC

- Perform and oversee hands-on SAP FI/CO configuration, including production changes, enhancements, and project work

- Design and support solutions across GL, AP, AR, Asset Accounting, Costing, Profitability, and Controlling

- Establish and maintain FI/CO configuration standards, design patterns, and documentation

- Ensure reliable integration between FI/CO, SAP MM, SAP SD, and external systems

- Review and approve finance-related functional designs and solution approaches

Solution Delivery and Area Leadership :

- Own end-to-end delivery of SAP FI/CO initiatives across projects, enhancements, and continuous production support

- Act as the FI/CO area lead for SAP delivery resources within the Global Capability Center (approximately 8 resources over time)

- Provide functional direction, prioritization input, and day-to-day guidance to SAP team members

- Balance hands-on execution with oversight to ensure quality, timeliness, and long-term sustainability

- Escalate risks, tradeoffs, and design decisions collaboratively with US-based SAP leadership

Solution Architecture & Design :

- Translate complex finance and accounting requirements into scalable SAP FI/CO solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards

- Lead solution design for SAP finance enhancements, integrations, and modernization initiatives across ECC and S/4HANA

- Ensure FI/CO designs are supportable, secure, and sustainable in production environments

- Collaborate with SAP Integration, Security, and Basis teams to ensure end-to-end solution integrity

- Evaluate and challenge solution approaches proposed by internal teams or external partners, with a focus on simplicity, cost-awareness, and long-term maintainability

- Operate effectively in a solution architect or lead design role within SAP Finance environments

Cross-Domain and Integration Collaboration :

- Apply working knowledge of SAP SD and Quote-to-Cash processes to support effective integration and coordination with SD resources

- Partner with SAP SD analysts and configurators to ensure clean handoffs and end-to-end process integrity

- Support finance impacts across order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and project or job-based accounting processes

- Collaborate closely with SAP Integration, Security, and Basis teams

Production Support and Continuous Improvement :

- Provide continuous production support leadership for SAP FI/CO Participate directly in troubleshooting complex finance issues and production incidents Identify opportunities to simplify finance processes, reduce technical debt, and improve system performance Ensure solutions meet audit, compliance, and internal control requirements

Stakeholder & Business Engagement :

- Act as a primary SAP FI/CO partner to US-based finance and Enterprise Technology Team stakeholders

- Lead finance-focused requirement discussions, design reviews, and solution walkthroughs

- Provide clear, pragmatic guidance on tradeoffs between business needs, system integrity, cost, and risk

- Communicate risks, dependencies, and design impacts clearly and constructively

- Build trust through technical credibility, follow-through, and sound judgment

Governance, Risk & Continuous Improvement :

- Establish and uphold SAP FI/CO design standards, configuration patterns, and governance practices

- Partner with Finance and Internal Audit to ensure SAP FI/CO solutions support audit readiness, control effectiveness, and regulatory requirements

- Drive continuous improvement in FI/CO delivery quality, stability, and supportability

- Contribute to SAP S/4HANA and finance modernization planning

People & Vendor Management :

- Act as the FI/CO area lead for SAP resources within the GCC, providing functional leadership rather than hierarchical management

- Mentor SAP team members in FI/CO configuration, design thinking, and delivery discipline

- Lead through technical authority, collaboration, and accountability

- Review and challenge SI and vendor deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, and fit-for-purpose solutions

- Support selective hiring and onboarding of SAP finance talent as the GCC continues to scale

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS :

- 10+ years of SAP experience with deep, hands-on expertise in SAP FI/CO

- Demonstrated experience configuring and supporting complex SAP finance solutions in production environments

- Strong understanding of enterprise finance processes, controls, and audit considerations

- Experience designing and delivering FI/CO solutions across GL, AP, AR, Asset Accounting, Costing, and Controlling

- Experience operating in SAP ECC environments with exposure to SAP S/4HANA

- Experience operating in a solution architect or lead design role within SAP Finance

- Working knowledge of SAP SD and its integration with FI/CO is preferred but not required

- Strong understanding of cross-module dependencies and end-to-end business processes

- Ability to lead peers and influence delivery outcomes without relying on formal hierarchy

- Experience working in global delivery models supporting US-based stakeholders

- SAP FI/CO or S/4HANA certifications are a plus
