Software Development Engineer III - Java

Education : B.E. / B.Tech / Dual Degree (CS/IT preferred)

Role Overview :

We are looking for an experienced Java engineer who can take ownership of backend engineering, drive system design, and contribute to building scalable technology platforms. The ideal candidate should have strong problem-solving skills, hands-on experience with distributed systems, and the ability to guide engineers while driving technical decisions.

Key Responsibilities :

- Lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance backend systems.

- Define technical architecture, service boundaries, and API design for critical applications.

- Work closely with product managers and engineering managers to translate business needs into technical solutions.

- Drive engineering standards across coding, testing, system design, and code reviews.

- Take ownership of production deployments, system reliability, debugging, and incident resolution.

- Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to improve infrastructure, scalability, and operational efficiency.

- Mentor junior engineers, support technical discussions, and help improve overall team productivity.

- Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure smooth execution of technical initiatives.

Required Technical Skills :

- 5 - 7 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4 years of building and managing distributed systems in production.

- Strong hands-on expertise in Java and backend development.

- Excellent understanding of distributed architecture and microservices.

- Experience with service decomposition, API design, and modularising monolithic applications.

- Strong knowledge of concurrency, caching, and storage systems.

- Experience in performance testing, profiling, and resolving memory or latency-related issues.

- Good understanding of application security, coding standards, and secure development practices.

- Strong analytical and first-principles problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to provide technical guidance and mentor SDE-I and SDE-II engineers.

Good to Have :

- Previous experience in startup fintech and small product-based companies.

- Experience working with large-scale, high-availability product systems.
