About the Role:

We are looking for a highly skilled Software Development Engineer II (Backend) to join a fast-growing product-based startup in Bangalore. This role is ideal for engineers who have built products from the ground up and thrive in fast-paced startup environments. You will play a key role in designing scalable backend systems, making architectural decisions, and building production-ready products with a strong sense of ownership.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and distributed applications.

- Build products from 0 to 1, taking ownership from concept through production.

- Participate in High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) discussions.

- Contribute to architecture decisions and system scalability initiatives.

- Build reliable, secure, and high-performance backend services.

- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to deliver customer-centric features.

- Optimize system performance, reliability, and maintainability.

- Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve platform stability.

- Drive engineering best practices, code quality, testing, and documentation.

- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture.

Required Skills & Experience:

1. Mandatory Requirements:

- 5-7 years of backend/software engineering experience.

- Experience working in product-based startups.

- Proven track record of building products from 0 to 1.

- Must be currently based in Bangalore.

- Stable career history demonstrating ownership and impact.

- Language-agnostic mindset with the ability to quickly learn new technologies.

2. Technical Skills:

- Strong Computer Science fundamentals including Data Structures and Algorithms.

- Expertise in designing and building scalable backend systems.

- Hands-on experience with High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD).

- Experience making architecture and system design decisions.

- Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, databases, and scalable architectures.

- Comfortable working across multiple programming languages and technology stacks.

3. Soft Skills:

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

- Strong ownership, accountability, and problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Design, and cross-functional teams.

- Experience working in fast-paced startup environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience scaling products with large user bases.

- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.

- Passion for building high-quality products from scratch.
