Role Purpose :

The Azure Technical Architect is responsible for designing, guiding, and ensuring the delivery of robust, secure, and scalable cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure.

This role bridges the gap between strategic cloud initiatives and hands-on technical execution, providing expert leadership across architecture design, development practices, cloud governance, and deployment automation.

Working closely with architects, engineers, and business stakeholders, the Azure Technical Architect ensures that solutions are aligned with enterprise standards, best practices, and business goalsdelivering high-performance cloud environments that support innovation, agility, security, and long-term sustainability.

Where I fit in :

This is a brand-new role in a recently restructured Digital and Architecture Team (DART).

This is a key role that will lead Azure development and migration from AWS.

The role will work in close cooperation with DART, Marketing team, and the wider IT team.

This role is critical in guiding development teams, ensuring technical alignment with best practices, and delivering robust, scalable, and secure Azure-based platforms that support our strategic goals.

Experience and Qualifications :

- Bachelor's degree in IT or related.

- 10+ years in IT with at least 35 years of experience designing solutions on Microsoft Azure.

- Deep expertise in core Azure services : Azure App Services, Functions, API Management, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Azure Storage, ACA, Front Door, WAF, Logic Apps, Log Analytics, Key Vault and Azure Active Directory.

- Strong knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools : ARM, Bicep, Terraform.

- Solid grasp of CI/CD and DevOps practices using Azure DevOps, and GitHub Actions.

- Strong understanding of cloud security best practices, identity & access management, and networking (VNETs, NSGs, ExpressRoute).

- Familiarity with Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and Well-Architected Framework.

- Provide high-level support and governance across cloud platforms.

- Collaborate with stakeholders to align solutions with business goals.

- Ensure robust documentation, security, and configuration management.

- Strong background in application and data security best practices.

- Strong knowledge of various technologies, platforms, standards and architectural patterns, with a particular focus on the Microsoft/Azure technology stack.

- Expertise in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, SOAP, and other integration protocols.

- Ensure best practices in security, cost optimization, performance, and availability are baked into solutions.

- Conduct technical assessments and cloud readiness evaluations of existing systems.

- Drive cloud governance, policy implementation, and landing zone configuration in line with enterprise architecture standards.

- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across Azure services, integrations, and third-party solutions.

- Stay up to date with Microsoft Azures roadmap and recommend new services or features that could enhance architecture or performance.

- Mentor engineers and developers to adopt best practices for cloud-native development.

- Experience working in an agile environment.

- Desire to move into a Solution Architecture space.
