Job Description :
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Engineer Android Automotive (AOSP) to lead the design, development, and integration of next-generation Android Automotive solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Android Open Source Project (AOSP), Android Automotive OS (AAOS), system-level software development, hardware-software integration, and automotive software processes.
This role requires a strong technical leader who can drive architecture decisions, mentor engineering teams, collaborate with global stakeholders, and ensure compliance with automotive quality standards, including ASPICE.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Technical Leadership :
- Lead the design, development, customization, and optimization of Android Automotive OS (AAOS) platforms.
- Drive architecture discussions and technical decisions for automotive infotainment and connected vehicle systems.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams across multiple projects.
- Review software designs, code quality, performance, and system architecture.
2. AOSP Development :
- Customize and enhance Android Open Source Project (AOSP) components to meet automotive requirements.
- Develop and maintain Android framework, middleware, and system-level services.
- Integrate Android Automotive features and services across multiple vehicle platforms.
- Optimize system performance, memory utilization, boot time, and overall stability.
3. Hardware & System Integration :
- Collaborate with hardware, BSP, platform, and product engineering teams.
- Design and implement hardware abstraction layers (HAL).
- Work closely with chipset vendors and hardware suppliers for platform integration.
- Support bring-up activities and system-level debugging.
4. HIDL/AIDL & System Services Development :
- Design and implement Android HIDL/AIDL interfaces.
- Develop Binder IPC-based communication mechanisms.
- Create and maintain Android system services and framework components.
- Ensure seamless communication between application, framework, and hardware layers.
5. Automotive Software Development :
- Develop software solutions aligned with automotive architecture and functional safety requirements.
- Support integration of vehicle services and automotive-specific APIs.
- Participate in software lifecycle activities including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and validation.
6. Quality & Process Compliance :
- Ensure compliance with ASPICE (Automotive SPICE) processes and standards.
- Participate in process audits, assessments, and quality reviews.
- Prepare technical documentation, design specifications, and compliance artifacts.
- Support software verification, validation, and release management activities.
7. Testing & Debugging :
- Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex system-level issues.
- Perform integration testing, performance testing, and system validation.
- Utilize debugging tools to analyze kernel, framework, and application issues.
- Collaborate with QA and validation teams to ensure product quality.
Required Technical Skills :
1. Android & AOSP :
- Strong experience in : Android Open Source Project (AOSP), Android Automotive OS (AAOS), Android Framework Development, Android System Services, Android Middleware, Android Internals.
2. System-Level Development :
- Strong expertise in : Java, Android Native Components, Linux-Based Systems, Embedded Software Development, Multithreading and Concurrency.
3. Android Communication Frameworks :
- Hands-on experience with : HIDL (HAL Interface Definition Language), AIDL (Android Interface Definition Language), Binder IPC, Android HAL Development, Android Service Architecture.
4. Automotive Technologies :
- Experience working on : Automotive Infotainment Systems, Connected Vehicle Platforms, Vehicle Services Integration, Automotive Middleware, Embedded Automotive Software.
5. Development Tools :
- Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, Android Studio, JIRA, CI/CD Pipelines, Debugging and Profiling Tools.
Mandatory Requirements :
- 10+ years of software development experience.
- Strong expertise in Android Automotive and AOSP development.
- Extensive experience with HIDL, AIDL, Binder IPC, and Android System Services.
- Experience in hardware-software integration and automotive platform bring-up.
- ASPICE (Automotive SPICE) process knowledge and implementation experience is mandatory.
- Proven experience leading complex automotive software programs.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related field.
- Experience working with Tier-1 automotive suppliers or automotive OEMs.
- Exposure to automotive communication protocols such as : CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SOME/IP.
- Knowledge of Automotive Functional Safety concepts.
- Familiarity with Agile and Automotive V-Model development methodologies.
