Job Title : Senior MSSQL Database Administrator.

Overview :

We are seeking a highly skilled MSSQL Specialist Systems Engineer with strong production database operations experience.

The ideal candidate should possess excellent problem-solving skills, strong ownership, and the ability to thrive in a 24x7 rotational shift environment.

This role involves database administration, performance tuning, high availability management, patching, automation, and crisis management.

Key Responsibilities :

- Provide on-call database support during weekends and after business hours.

- Handle Production Database Operations and ensure smooth BAU (Business-As-Usual) activities.

- Apply knowledge of the ITIL Framework for incident, problem, and change management.

- Communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and clients (verbal & written).

- Lead and manage Incident Management & Crisis calls, ensuring timely resolution.

- Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

- Take responsibility and ownership of issues and tasks.

- Continuously upskill on new technologies, SQL features, and open-source tools.

- Plan and execute PSU Patching & SQL Server Upgrades (Legacy Management).

- Automate PSU patching, installations, and other BAU activities.

- Use tools like Performance Monitor and SQL Profiler to optimize performance, trace long-running queries, and resolve blocking/deadlock issues.

- Manage SQL accounts : login creation, deletion, profile modification, and security/audit parameters.

- Perform index maintenance (de-fragmentation, re-indexing, statistics updates).

- Configure, manage, and monitor High Availability solutions :

1. AlwaysON.

2. Log Shipping.

3. Mirroring.

4. Replication.

5. Clustering.

- Perform regular database backups, recovery operations, and schedule automated backup jobs.

- Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL Agent Jobs / Autosys Jobs / Maintenance Plans.

- Prepare and update SOPs, technical, and operational documents.

Mandatory Skills & Experience :

- Strong experience in Production MSSQL Database Operations.

- Excellent understanding of BAU processes.

- Good knowledge of the ITIL framework.

- Strong communication and presentation skills; proficiency in PPT, Excel, formulas, and macros.

- Experience in Incident Management, Client/Vendor coordination, and Crisis handling.

- End-to-End Project Management experience and ability to define technology roadmaps.

- Preferred experience with LEAN methodology for BAU optimization.

- Strong skills in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, and connectivity troubleshooting.

- Good understanding of Storage-level replication technologies like SRDF.

- Experience troubleshooting AlwaysON, Clustering, and other HA components.

- Experience with data corruption troubleshooting (page-level, table-level).

Good To Have Skills :

- Experience managing large environments with 500+ SQL instances and TB-scale databases.

- PowerShell scripting for database administration and automation.

Qualification / Certification :

- Engineering Graduate / MCA / Computer Science Graduate or Post-Graduate.

- Relevant RDBMS certifications (MSSQL/Database Administration) are an added advantage.
