Senior SAP ABAP Consultant - BADI/BAPI Modules

Job Overview :

We are looking for an accomplished and highly proficient Senior SAP ABAP Consultant to join our SAP Center of Excellence team in Bangalore. This role is suitable for experienced professionals who have a deep understanding of SAP ABAP development, a proven record of solution delivery, and a strong grasp of business processes and systems integration.

The ideal candidate must possess technical expertise across the full spectrum of SAP ABAP technologies and have hands-on experience in implementing, customizing, enhancing, and supporting complex SAP landscapes, preferably in multi-module and large-scale enterprise environments.

This role demands a strategic mindset, problem-solving abilities, technical acumen, and the capability to deliver under strict deadlines while working with cross-functional global teams. The candidate will be actively involved in the full software development lifecycle including requirement analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, code, test, and deploy scalable, secure, and optimized ABAP programs to support SAP business applications, ensuring alignment with organizational standards and SAP best practices.

- Develop custom SAP enhancements using BADI, BAPI, User Exits, Customer Exits, and Enhancement Framework techniques to meet evolving business requirements without modifying standard SAP code.

- Create reports (Classical, ALV, Interactive), smart forms, Adobe forms, SAP scripts, and develop programs using Module Pool and Dialog Programming.

- Design and implement data migration strategies using BDC, LSMW, and custom conversion programs, ensuring high data integrity and minimal downtime.

- Work on Object-Oriented ABAP concepts, including ALV Object Model, global classes/interfaces, and design patterns for reusability and maintainability.

- Build and expose OData services and RESTful APIs for integration with SAP Fiori/UI5 and external systems.

- Develop CDS Views, AMDP procedures, and leverage ABAP on HANA techniques to optimize performance in S/4HANA environments.

- Monitor and manage SAP integration processes using IDOC, ALE, RFC, BAPI, and Proxy-based communication for both inbound and outbound interfaces.

- Conduct performance tuning, memory optimization, and debugging of custom code and standard enhancements to improve system efficiency.

- Participate in design and code reviews, ensuring that technical solutions are secure, scalable, and align with enterprise architecture guidelines.

- Collaborate with functional consultants across SAP modules such as MM, SD, FI, PP, WM, and HCM to provide seamless end-to-end business process automation.

- Prepare detailed technical specifications, design documents, test plans, and training materials for custom developments and enhancements.

- Provide L2/L3 production support, perform impact analysis for changes, and resolve issues through root cause analysis.

- Work closely with SAP Basis and Security teams to ensure proper transport management, system stability, and role assignments for custom objects.

- Participate in SAP upgrades, patching activities, and system migration projects including ECC to S/4HANA transformation efforts.

Technical Skills Required :

- Hands-on experience in Reports (Classical, Interactive, ALV), SmartForms, Adobe Forms, and SAP Scripts.

- In-depth knowledge of Object-Oriented ABAP (OOABAP), BADI, BAPI, Enhancement Framework, and User Exits.

- Strong experience in developing and managing interfaces using ALE/IDOC, Proxy, RFC, and Web Services.

- Proficiency in ABAP on HANA features such as CDS Views, AMDP, Open SQL, and Performance Tuning techniques specific to HANA.

- Good exposure to SAP UI5/Fiori application development and backend service provisioning via OData.

- Expertise in debugging complex programs and analyzing ABAP dumps, performance traces, and SQL/DB access patterns.

- Hands-on experience in data migration tools including BDC, LSMW, and custom load programs.

- Familiarity with SAP Workflow, BRF+, and Business Object Repository is an advantage.

- Knowledge of software development lifecycle processes including Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.

- Experience in transport management, change request handling, and release management using Solution Manager/ChaRM.

Functional Domain Exposure :

- Ability to comprehend and translate functional requirements into technical specifications with a focus on performance, scalability, and maintainability.

- Knowledge of cross-module integration and end-to-end process flows including Order-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, and Record-to-Report cycles.

- Experience working in regulated environments (like pharma, automotive, or banking) or exposure to audit-compliant development practices is a plus.

Educational & Professional Qualifications :

- SAP Certified Development Associate ABAP with SAP NetWeaver or SAP S/4HANA Development certification is desirable.

- Proven track record of working on global implementations, support projects, or SAP rollouts.
