Detailed Job Description - Senior QA Automation Engineer (Payments):

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior QA Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Java-based test automation, API and microservices testing, AWS, and payment systems.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing scalable automation frameworks using Java, RestAssured, Selenium, and TestNG, along with strong knowledge of payment rails including ACH, RTP, FedNow, Zelle, SWIFT, and ISO 20022.

This role requires someone who can validate complex end-to-end payment lifecycles, establish automation-first QA practices, define test strategies, and work closely with Engineering, Product, Architecture, DevOps, and Business teams to deliver high-quality and reliable payment solutions.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and maintain robust Java-based automation frameworks for API, microservices, and end-to-end testing.

- Develop automated test suites using Selenium, RestAssured, TestNG, and other relevant testing frameworks.

- Build reusable automation components, utilities, libraries, and test data frameworks.

- Automate functional, regression, integration, system, and end-to-end test scenarios.

- Develop automated validation for REST APIs, microservices, backend services, and payment workflows.

- Implement data-driven, keyword-driven, and behavior-driven automation approaches where appropriate.

- Ensure automation frameworks are scalable, maintainable, and easy for other QA engineers to use.

- Continuously identify manual testing opportunities that can be converted into automated tests.

API & Microservices Testing:

- Perform comprehensive testing of REST APIs and microservices.

- Create and maintain API automation suites using RestAssured and Java.

- Validate HTTP status codes, request/response payloads, headers, authentication/authorization, error handling, response times, business rules, and data integrity.

- Validate communication and dependencies between distributed microservices.

- Test synchronous and asynchronous service interactions.

- Perform integration testing across payment applications, APIs, databases, messaging systems, and external systems.

- Validate service resiliency, retries, timeouts, and failure scenarios.

Payments Domain Testing:

- Apply strong knowledge of the payments domain to develop comprehensive test scenarios.

- Validate end-to-end payment transaction lifecycles across different payment rails (ACH, RTP, FedNow, Zelle, SWIFT, ISO 20022).

- Validate payment initiation, validation, routing, processing, settlement, acknowledgements, and exception scenarios.

- Test payment statuses, transaction responses, reversals, returns, retries, cancellations, and failures.

- Validate payment message formats and transformations.

- Develop test scenarios around ISO 20022 messages and financial data structures.

- Validate transaction processing across internal and external payment systems.

- Ensure end-to-end transaction integrity across distributed payment platforms.

- Identify and validate edge cases associated with duplicate transactions, timeouts, partial failures, retries, and reconciliation.

AWS Testing:

- Perform QA and application testing in AWS cloud environments.

- Validate cloud-based applications, APIs, microservices, and integrations.

- Work with AWS services relevant to application testing and troubleshooting.

- Validate application behavior across distributed cloud environments.

- Analyze application logs and troubleshoot failures using AWS monitoring and logging capabilities.

- Collaborate with DevOps/SRE teams to investigate environment, deployment, and infrastructure-related issues.

- Validate cloud deployment configurations and application integrations as part of release testing.

QA Strategy & Leadership:

- Define and implement comprehensive QA strategies for payment applications and microservices.

- Establish an automation-first testing approach across projects.

- Identify automation opportunities and define automation roadmaps.

- Determine appropriate testing strategies for functional, integration, regression, API, performance, and end-to-end testing.

- Establish automation standards, coding guidelines, framework standards, and best practices.

- Review test plans, test cases, automation scripts, and test execution results.

- Mentor and guide QA engineers in automation and payment-domain testing.

- Drive continuous improvements in test coverage, execution speed, and defect detection.

- Track and report QA metrics including automation coverage, defect leakage, execution status, and quality trends.

CI/CD & Continuous Testing:

- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines.

- Support continuous testing practices across development and deployment workflows.

- Configure automated test execution as part of build and release pipelines.

- Ensure regression suites can be executed reliably and consistently.

- Work with DevOps teams to troubleshoot pipeline and automation failures.

- Promote shift-left testing and early defect identification.

- Support automated quality gates before application deployment.

Functional & End-to-End Testing:

- Analyze business requirements and technical specifications to develop comprehensive test scenarios.

- Create detailed test cases covering positive, negative, boundary, and exception scenarios.

- Execute end-to-end validation across complex payment ecosystems.

- Validate business rules and transaction processing logic.

- Perform regression testing for new releases and enhancements.

- Conduct integration testing across APIs, microservices, databases, queues, and third-party systems.

- Ensure complete traceability between requirements, test cases, automation, and defects.

Defect Management & Troubleshooting:

- Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects through resolution.

- Perform detailed root cause analysis of application and automation failures.

- Collaborate with developers and architects to reproduce and resolve complex defects.

- Analyze application logs, API responses, database records, and transaction flows to identify issues.

- Differentiate between application defects, environment issues, data issues, and automation failures.

- Participate in defect triage and release readiness discussions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Work closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, Business Analysts, Solution Architects, DevOps/SRE teams, Payment SMEs, and other QA teams.

- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.

- Collaborate with distributed teams across different locations and time zones.

- Communicate quality risks, dependencies, blockers, and release readiness to stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

- 6+ years of experience in Software QA/Test Automation.

- Strong hands-on experience with Java-based automation.

- Strong experience with RestAssured for API automation.

- Strong experience with Selenium.

- Strong experience with TestNG.

- Hands-on experience testing REST APIs and microservices.

- Strong knowledge of automation framework design and development.

- Strong payments domain knowledge (ACH, RTP, FedNow, Zelle, SWIFT, ISO 20022).

- Experience validating end-to-end payment lifecycles.

- Hands-on QA experience in AWS environments.

- Experience defining QA strategies and automation approaches.

- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Technical Skills:
