Key Responsibilities :

As a Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator, your core responsibilities will include :

- Database Administration & Monitoring : Administer, monitor, and maintain PostgreSQL databases across diverse environments, including development, staging, and mission-critical production systems, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.

- Performance Optimization : Proactively perform database performance tuning, intricate query optimization, and strategic indexing to maximize efficiency and responsiveness of applications.

- High Availability & Disaster Recovery : Design, implement, and manage robust high availability solutions, comprehensive backup/restore strategies, advanced replication setups (e.g., streaming replication, logical replication), and meticulous disaster recovery planning to minimize data loss and downtime.

- Automation & Scripting : Develop, implement, and maintain automation scripts and tools for routine database tasks such as backups, patching, upgrades, and health checks, leveraging technologies like Ansible, Terraform, or custom shell scripts.

- Collaboration & Support : Work closely with DevOps, application development, and infrastructure teams to provide expert database support, guidance, and best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

- Security & Compliance : Manage users, roles, security policies, and access control mechanisms to enforce strict database security best practices and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.

- Troubleshooting & Incident Resolution : Act as a primary point of contact for complex database incidents, providing Level 3 support, diagnosing root causes, and implementing effective resolutions in a timely manner.

- Documentation & Standards : Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and runbooks for all database operations, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.

- Capacity Planning : Conduct regular capacity planning and forecasting for database growth, recommending necessary infrastructure scaling and resource allocation.

- Mentorship : Potentially mentor junior DBAs and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

Required Skills & Experience :

- Extensive PostgreSQL Expertise : 7+ years of hands-on, in-depth PostgreSQL DBA experience in large-scale, high-traffic production environments.

- Database Tuning Mastery : Strong proficiency in advanced database tuning techniques, complex query analysis, execution plan interpretation, and optimizing system architecture for PostgreSQL.

- Replication & HA : Proven experience with various PostgreSQL replication tools and strategies, including native streaming replication, logical replication (e.g., pglogical), and third-party solutions for high availability and data distribution.

- Linux & Scripting : Excellent knowledge of Linux operating systems, including system administration fundamentals, and strong proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Python) for automation and task management.

- Automation Tools : Hands-on experience with automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef.

- Cloud Environments : Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) and experience deploying, managing, and optimizing PostgreSQL instances in cloud-native setups (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Google Cloud SQL).

- Monitoring & Alerting : Experience with database monitoring tools like pgAdmin, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar, for proactive health checks, performance metrics, and alerting.

- Database Security : Solid understanding of database security best practices, data encryption, access control, auditing, and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, SOX).

- SQL & PL/pgSQL : Advanced SQL writing skills and experience with PL/pgSQL for stored procedures, functions, and triggers.

- Problem-Solving : Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting complex database issues.

- Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired Skills (Good to Have) :

- Experience with other relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) is a plus.
