Senior Platform Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Leadership & Strategy :

- Define and execute the long-term technical roadmap for the platform engineering function

- Make architectural decisions that impact the entire engineering organization

- Evaluate and adopt new technologies that improve platform capabilities and developer experience

- Lead design reviews and ensure adherence to platform engineering best practices across the team

Team Leadership & Mentorship :

- Lead and mentor a team of 3- 6 platform engineers, providing technical guidance and career development

- Conduct technical interviews and participate in hiring decisions for platform engineering roles

- Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and operational excellence within the team

- Coordinate with other engineering leads to align platform capabilities with organizational needs

Advanced Platform Engineering :

- Design complex, multi-region, multi-account AWS architectures with high availability and disaster recovery

- Implement advanced Terraform patterns including dynamic configurations, complex module hierarchies, and state management strategies

- Establish comprehensive testing frameworks including contract testing, performance testing, and chaos engineering for platform services

- Lead incident response for critical platform issues and drive architectural improvements based on lessons learned

Infrastructure as Code Mastery :

- Architect sophisticated Terraform/Terragrunt solutions that support complex organizational requirements

- Implement advanced testing strategies including property-based testing, mutation testing, and compliance testing

- Design CI/CD pipelines that ensure safe, reliable deployment of infrastructure changes across multiple environments

- Establish governance frameworks for infrastructure code including automated policy enforcement and drift detection

Cross-functional Collaboration :

- Partner with engineering leadership to translate business requirements into platform capabilities

- Work closely with security teams to implement platform-level security controls and compliance measures

- Collaborate with product teams to understand and anticipate their infrastructure needs

- Present platform capabilities and roadmap to stakeholders and executive leadership

Innovation & Continuous Improvement :

- Research and prototype emerging technologies that could benefit the platform

- Lead initiatives to improve platform reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness

- Establish metrics and KPIs to measure platform success and developer productivity

- Drive adoption of industry best practices and contribute to the broader platform engineering community

Required Qualifications :

- Experience : 8+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure with 2+ years in a technical leadership role

- Leadership : Proven track record of leading and mentoring engineering teams, including experience with hiring and performance management

- Advanced Technical Skills : Expert-level knowledge of Terraform (5+ years) and Terragrunt (2+ years) with experience architecting complex, enterprise-scale solutions

- AWS Mastery : Deep expertise across the full AWS ecosystem including advanced services like Organizations, Control Tower, Service Catalog, and Well-Architected reviews

- Testing Excellence : Extensive experience implementing comprehensive testing strategies for infrastructure including automated testing, policy validation, and compliance checking

- Platform Architecture : Demonstrated experience designing and implementing large-scale platform solutions that serve hundreds of developers

- Communication : Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Advanced Technical Skills :

- Cloud Architecture : Multi-account AWS strategies, hybrid/multi-cloud scenarios, enterprise networking

- Advanced Automation : Infrastructure testing frameworks, policy engines, automated compliance checking

- Platform Technologies : Kubernetes ecosystem, service mesh, API gateways, secrets management

- Security : Zero-trust architecture, security automation, compliance frameworks (SOC2, GDPR, HIPAA)
