Job Title : Senior Informix Database Architect/Specialist
Experience : 8-10 required years of experience.
Core Responsibilities :
- Database Architecture & Migration : Lead the design and execution of complex database upgrade and modernization projects, including migrations from older Informix versions (e.g., XPS) to the latest IDS (Informix Dynamic Server).
- Performance Optimization : Proactively identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks. This includes deep experience in rewriting and optimizing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and views. Conduct regular performance tuning and health checks.
- High Availability & Replication : Design, configure, and manage high-availability and disaster recovery solutions using Informix HDR (High Availability Data Replication), ER (Enterprise Replication), CM (Connection Manager), RSS (Remote Secondary Server), and SDS (Shared Disk Secondary).
- Development Support : Provide expert support and guidance to application developers working with Informix 4GL and ESQL/C code, ensuring efficient database interaction.
- Automation & Scripting : Develop and implement automation tools and scripts using Python and other AI/automation techniques to streamline routine database administration, deployment, and monitoring tasks.
- Installation & Configuration : Lead the installation, configuration, and patching of all core Informix components, including Informix Server, Informix Client SDK, and Informix 4GL Tools.
- Data Capture : Demonstrate proficiency with Change Data Capture (CDC) concepts and implementation to support data integration and warehousing initiatives.
- Backup and Recovery : Implement, test, and manage robust backup and recovery strategies using native Informix tools like ontape and onbar.
Required Technical Skills (Must-Have) :
- Informix Mastery : Expert-level knowledge of the Informix database suite, specifically Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) and Informix Extended Parallel Server (XPS).
- Development Languages : Strong development knowledge of Informix 4GL and ESQL/C.
- Advanced DBA Skills : Proven experience with DB upgrade and design for large-scale Informix environments.
- Migration Experience : Specific expertise in managing and executing Design/Migrations from old Informix versions and XPS to IDS.
- Scripting & Automation : Proficiency in Python for database automation and administration, along with general scripting knowledge.
- SQL & Tuning : Extensive experience with rewriting and optimizing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and views for improved performance.
- Availability : Hands-on experience configuring and managing Informix solutions : HDR, ER, CM, RSS, and SDS.
- Backup & Installs : Deep knowledge of Informix backup using ontape and onbar, and practical experience with product installation (4GL Tools, Server, Client SDK).
- Data Concepts : Well versed with CDC (Change Data Capture) concepts.
Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Have) :
- Replication Deep Dive : Advanced experience with complex Informix Enterprise Replication (ER) topologies.
- Clustering : Exposure to implementing and troubleshooting Informix clustering solutions : HDR, SDS, and RSS.
- Cloud Deployment : Experience deploying and managing Informix environments on cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, IBM Cloud, or OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).
- Cross-RDBMS Knowledge : Familiarity with other major RDBMS platforms like DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server, particularly in the context of migration or integration projects.
- Specialized Datablades : Knowledge of Informix datablades like Timeseries and Geo Spatial.
