Senior Informix Database Administrator

Description :

We are looking for a Senior Informix DBA to oversee our mission-critical data infrastructure. In this role, you will lead the architecture, performance tuning, and lifecycle management of large-scale IBM Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) environments. You will be responsible for ensuring 24/7 database availability, designing robust disaster recovery plans, and guiding our transition to modern, cloud-enabled Informix platforms.

Key Responsibilities :

Architecture & Migration :

- Lead large-scale modernization projects, including migrations from legacy versions (9.x, 10.x, 11.x) or XPS to the latest Informix 14.10.

High Availability & Replication :

- Design and manage complex HA topologies using HDR (High Availability Data Replication), RSS (Remote Secondary Server), SDS (Shared Disk Secondary), and Enterprise Replication (ER).

Modern Monitoring :

- Deploy and configure InformixHQ for centralized, web-based monitoring, alerting, and performance visualization.

Performance Tuning :

- Perform deep-dive optimization using onstat, oncheck, and SMI tables. Optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and Stored Procedure Language (SPL).

Backup & Recovery :

- Implement automated backup strategies using onbar or ontape, including direct-to-cloud backups (e.g., Amazon S3).

Advanced Features :

- Manage innovative data types such as TimeSeries and Spatial Data, and leverage Storage Optimization (data compression) for resource efficiency.

Security :

- Enforce strict security standards, including TLS/SSL encryption, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and audit logging to the system log (ASL).

Automation :

- Utilize Python and Shell Scripting (Bash/Korn) to automate routine maintenance, such as space management and catalog cleanups.

Required Qualifications :

Experience :

- 8- 15 years of professional DBA experience, with a heavy focus on Informix IDS in production Linux/Unix environments.

Technical Skills :

- Expertise in Informix 14.10 internals, memory management, and disk architecture (chunks, dbspaces).

- Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix administration and kernel parameter tuning for Informix.

- In-depth knowledge of Connection Manager (CM) for workload balancing.

Education :

- Bachelor 's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred Certifications & Skills :

- IBM Certified System Administrator - Informix.

- Experience with Docker/OpenShift for containerized Informix deployments.

- Familiarity with NoSQL/JSON support via MongoDB drivers in Informix.

- Cross-database experience with Db2 or Oracle is a plus for hybrid environments.
